The Safety Superintendent reports directly to the Cedar Bayou EHSS Manager and is a key leader in the plant. This position is responsible for planning, directing, and managing all personnel safety, firewater systems, and emergency response activities for the Cedar Bayou Facility. This individual possesses a proactive risk reduction mindset and role-models proactive risk reduction behaviors. He/she recognizes areas for continuous improvement and engages his/her team in the development, prioritization, and implementation of effective solutions. This individual can manage multiple priorities concurrently, sets objectives, establishes budgets, and manages interdepartmental interfaces and department employee performance. The Safety Superintendent is also responsible for providing influential leadership to the plant in its Operational Excellence continuous improvement journey. **Responsibilities** + Leads development and implementation of facility safety strategies, including plant-wide and department long­ range and short-range goals, in conjunction with plant leadership, to ensure a safe and compliant workplace; + Demonstrates visible safety leadership through physical presence in the plant, development, communication and implementation of creative solutions for continued improvement of plant employee and contractor safety performance; + Ensures compliance with corporate, local, state and federal regulations and guidelines and ensures that proper documentation and reporting requirements are met; + Keeps abreast of upcoming compliance legislation and policy changes and understands applicability to the facility; + Ensures plant Emergency Response Team is adequately supported, staffed and trained to maintain readiness for potential emergency situations; **Responsibilities (continued)** + Coordinates the Contractor Safety program to achieve desired results, including achieving top quartile safety performance of contractors working on site and other proactive measures to continually move toward zero injuries and illnesses within the site; + Partners with other departments to solve problems and implement sustainable continuous improvements; + Challenges status quo and pursues continuous improvement, implementation, and maintenance of facility's safety programs and policies. + Coaches and develops direct reports with a focus on growing people and developing new leaders; + Leads and engages in initiatives to continuously improve Conduct of Operations (COO)/ and Operational Discipline (OD); + Ensures appropriate internal and external reporting of incidents is completed thoroughly and according to prescribed timelines; + Establishes, reviews, and evaluates annual safety department expense and capital budgets, as well as AFEs as they relate to the safety, firewater management and emergency response programs at the facility; + Prepares and/or reviews safety plans for major capital projects and provides support for major capital expansions and projects; + Supports and participates in corporate best practice team efforts. **Required Qualifications** + Bachelor's degree + A minimum of eight (8) years in the EHS&S field in petrochemical or refining environment with related experience + Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer applications + Highly motivated, a self-starter, able to handle multiple tasks concurrently + Passion to excel, customer-focused, results-driven, and able to effectively work with personnel at various levels of the company **Preferred Qualifications** + Demonstrated experience supervising, managing personnel and/or leading teams + Bachelor's degree in engineering, a science/technical related field or EH&S related discipline + Professional certification in an EHS discipline (e.g., Certified Safety Professional designation) + Member of Emergency Response Team + Strong communication, interpersonal, and executive functioning skills. + Demonstrated ability to self-start, handle multiple tasks concurrently, and be customer-focused, with ability to work at various levels of the company.
