Safety Systems Engineer

In support of our business units, Mission Engineering, Advisory and Technical Services, and Team Downer as the prime Major Service Provider (MSP) we deliver above the line consulting services and Integrated Work Packages across the Department of Defence, including groups (Defence Digital Group (DDG), Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG), the services (Navy, Army and Air Force).

We're eager to connect with qualified Safety Systems Engineers, experience working in land-based projects would be highly regarded.

If successful in securing a role, your work may involve: 

Develop and implement safety frameworks and risk assessments aligned with Defence safety regulations and industry best practices.  Conduct safety case development, system hazard analysis, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate risks.  Provide safety engineering advice and support to project teams, ensuring compliance with Defence’s Capability Life Cycle (CLC) requirements.  Engage with stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and engineering teams to integrate safety measures into system design and operation.  Support verification and validation (V&V) activities, ensuring that all safety requirements are met through testing and evaluation. 

Our work is highly complex and confidential, applicants must be Australian citizens with a minimum NV1 security clearance. Additionally, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may be necessary. In some cases, this may impose restrictions on individuals with dual nationality, permanent residency, or former nationality of specific countries as outlined in ITAR 126.1. 

We are seeking candidates with defence industry experience in the follow areas:  

Strong experience as a Safety Systems Engineer within Defence, government, or professional services.  Relevant qualifications or certifications in Engineering (preferably Systems or Safety Engineering) or a related technical discipline.  Experience with safety-critical systems, risk assessment methodologies, and hazard analysis techniques (HAZOP, FMEA, FTA, etc.).  Knowledge of Defence safety frameworks, policies, and ASDEFCON templates.
