Safety Technician

GENERAL DESCRIPTION\n

The Safety Technician I supports and assists the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager in planning, implementing, and coordinating safety and environmental programs in accordance with written regulations, procedures, and policies.\n

DUTIES\n\nAssess workplaces for environmental hazards, such as exposure to radiation, chemical or biological hazards, or excessive noise. \nAssess workplaces for physical hazards, such as slips, trips and falls, equipment and machinery hazards.\nIssue, maintain and train personal in the proper use of PPE, including fit testing of personnel who wear respirators. \nVerify proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hearing and eye protection, hand and body protection, and respirator usage. \nEvaluate potentially hazardous situations when a worker has refused to work or believes that danger or potential harm exists. \nInvestigate mishaps that result in injury to personnel, damage to equipment, or near misses that had a potential of injury or damage.\nMaintain all required safety and environmental records and documentation.\nTrain personnel on required safety and environmental matters annually and as required, including Adult CPR and New Employee Indoctrination.\nAssists the EHS Manager as required.\nOther duties as assigned\n\n

EDUCATION\/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS\n\nAS or certificate in EHS field of study.\nStrong grasp of the English language to include both written and verbal forms of communication.\nKnowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.\nKnowledge of federal, state and local laws and regulations concerning safety and environmental health in the workplace.\nKnowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.\n\n

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS\n

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Functional Requirements:\n\nMust be able to walk, stand, crawl, kneel and bend on level and\/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day.\nMust be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.\nMust be able to crouch, crawl, grasp, pull over hand, push, reach or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow\/knee and reach above\/below shoulders.\nMay be required to lift up to 44 pounds and heavy, moderate carrying up to 44 pounds.\nMust be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales with or without corrective lens.\nMust be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.\nMust be able to distinguish color, shades of color and judge three-dimensional depth.\n\n

Environmental Factors:\n\nWork in an inside\/outside environment to include working around machinery, objects, vehicles, ladders, and scaffolds.\nExcessive noise and vibration that can be intermittent or constant.\nEnvironmental conditions can included but not limited to dust, silica, asbestos, fumes, smoke, gas, solvents such as degreasing agents, grease, oils, and electrical energy\nWorking on slippery or uneven surfaces\nWorking closely with others or working alone\nPossible protracted or irregular hours of work as needed or required.\n\n
