Air Products has an immediate opportunity for a Sales, Use & Excise Tax Manager working hybrid at our Global HQ in Allentown, PA.
Skills / Abilities:
This managerial position owns and manages the Company’s North American Sales, Use and Excise tax process and has awareness of indirect tax advice globally.
Primary responsibilities include leading a team of (4) sales tax professionals while ensuring timely and accurate compliance with sales, use and excise tax laws and minimizing the amount of transaction taxes due by proactively identifying exemptions and other opportunities.
This is a key managerial position in a collegial and valued Tax Department, where a candidate could have a significant impact on the Company’s tax position. A successful candidate will help to continuously improve the sales, use and excise tax process and produce substantial cost reductions for the Company in the form of scrutinizing transactions to only pay the required taxes. The Manager – Sales, Use & Excise tax has historically led most technology and ERP projects within the tax group.
Responsibilities:
Execute and manage the North American sales, use and excise tax compliance process. Ensure completion and review of all sales, use and excise tax returns and other required filings in a timely fashion. Ensure that all sales, use and excise tax payments are made on time.
Identify, prioritize, and challenge those jurisdictions viewed as overtaxing our transactions and reach agreement on an acceptable level of taxation with governmental authorities.
Execute and manage all sales, use and excise tax audits with a view toward reaching an acceptable settlement position.
Monitor sales, use and excise tax legislative changes and communicate such changes to key stakeholders to ensure compliance.
Support new capital and M&A projects by providing timely and accurate sales, use and excise tax estimates to forecast project costs.
Support new capital projects by identifying and obtaining any applicable sales, use and excise tax incentives.
Support accurate accrual of sales, use and excise tax on the financial statements.
Support rebilling of sales, use and excise taxes to customers when allowed by contract.
Manage and develop individuals in the sales, use and excise tax team to foster a thorough succession plan.
Lead the implementation of ERP and Vertex changes and/or updates on behalf of the Tax Department.
Required Qualifications:
5 years’ experience with sales, use and excise tax compliance, audit and appeal.
A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in finance, business, accounting, economics, or engineering.
Strong interpersonal, analytical, negotiation, communication, and process management skills.
Ability to develop a deep understanding of the Company’s assets and businesses.
Understanding, or ability to develop an understanding, of transfer tax principles including validation of exemption documentation and transactional tax determination.
Ability to review and understand sales, use and excise tax laws and regulations.
Working knowledge of SAP and Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience in system upgrades, especially implementing SAP S/4HANA and Vertex (Series O).
Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge of VAT in other countries and regions is a plus.
Experience in Vertex is a plus.
Work Hours / Travel Requirements:
Schedule: Monday to Friday
Typical Hours: flexible between 6am-6pm, your preference
Work Model: Hybrid (office: 3 days, Tues, Thur & you choose 3rd day and wfh 2 days)
Typical Travel Percentage: <5%
Typical Travel Locations: Infrequent domestic travel is required, primarily in the U.S. gulf coast region. Ex. conference and auditing sites.
