Sales Team Leader

Purpose of the job

Responsible for driving sustainable and profitable sales execution across assigned markets and channels by leading a high-performing sales team. This role oversees team productivity, merchandising, and customer service to enhance brand experience, fuel growth, and strengthen brand loyalty. Requires strong leadership, coaching ability, and confidence in cold calling and public speaking for business development.  

Key Responsibilities

Operational 

Coordinating the involvement of sales and trade marketing support personnel, including customer support, service, and management resources, so that team performance objectives and customers’ expectations are met. Proactively inspecting execution activity, merchandising activity and effort among sales associates managed, ensuring that the quality and quantity of sales, trade marketing execution and in-store effort meets company expectations Collaborating with line management to lead and develop assigned on-trade and formal on-trade teams, including merchandisers, field marketers, and third-party activation agencies, to ensure delivery of market-level strategic and business objectives Providing insights on consumer trends, competitors, customer trends, pricing, challenges and opportunities in relevant channels to sales manager Implementing the brand, channel and cycle plans and reviewing the effectiveness and ROI of these activities

Leadership

Supporting the team in achieving collective KPIs while consistently meeting individual performance goals Identifying and addressing skill deficiencies among team members by implementing tailored coaching and development plans, with a  strong emphasis on field based, execution-oriented training Positively impacting the performance of individual team members by implementing and managing field support tools, including training programmes, productivity initiatives, account and territory planning methodologies, and customer communication tool Driving a high-performance culture through active engagement with key stakeholders within the identified sales and Trade Marketing communities Ensuring the team and Trade Marketing staff are consistently informed of strategic priorities, objectives, and upcoming action plans by facilitating regular meetings and maintaining clear, effective channels of communication Exploiting new learnings from other regions/markets, to improve volume and revenue for own area of responsibility Defining and aligning sales targets with the Sales Manager, along with Trade Marketing KPIs to monitor performance across key areas/zones, and ensuring corrective actions are implemented when targets are missed or performance is off track

Strategy

Directing and supporting the consistent implementation of company initiatives in line with agreed strategy Ensuring that all strategy plans are focused on driving sustainable volume growth, incremental profit and cost optimisation through and efficient secondary supply chain structures Aligning key channel processes to gain a competitive edge, while tracking KPIs—such as stock levels, sales, call compliance, delivery performance, distribution, and availability—to improve transparency and support smarter decisions that boost brand power and market share in target region

Proactively assessing, clarifying, and validating customer requirements and satisfaction by engaging key customers in conjunction with sales personnel managed Providing a management-level point of contact for key customers Building and maintaining strong customer relationships

Driving strategic focus and execution in the on-trade channel to elevate consumer experience with company brands, fueling sales growth and deepening brand affinity Driving strategic exploitation of market trends through engagement with key stakeholders and building on learning from other markets Looking to other industries/companies for ideas to enhance our effectiveness and efficiency
