SALES & USE TAX MANAGER
ABOUT YOU:
As the Sales & Use Tax Manager, you'll be the driving force behind Jostens’ Sales Tax function, leading a team and ensuring compliance with ever-evolving tax regulations. You'll take charge of solving complex sales tax challenges, determining Jostens' tax positions, and implementing cutting-edge solutions through the Vertex O Sales Tax Software system. Whether it’s launching new products, navigating legal changes, or managing multi-state audits, you'll be at the forefront of ensuring our tax processes are streamlined and accurate. Your expertise will be key to collaborating across teams, maintaining a large exemption database, and conducting internal testing to ensure seamless operations. YOU HAVE:
+ Experience. At least 10 years of experience managing sales and use tax compliance in a multi-state environment.
+ Education. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (or equivalent).
+ Tax Knowledge. Deep understanding of sales tax fundamentals, including nexus, exemptions, and regulatory compliance, with proven application in complex scenarios.
+ Problem-Solving Skills. Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve compliance issues, streamline processes, and implement effective solutions under tight deadlines.
+ Technical Expertise. Proficiency in tax software (e.g., Vertex O) and accounting systems, with experience in Oracle preferred.
+ Communication Skills. Ability to effectively communicate tax advice in both verbal and written forms.
+ Independent Leadership. Proven ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
+ Preferred. Experience with Oracle and Vertex O software.
YOU WILL:
+ Oversee Tax Compliance. Manage external service providers and internal staff to ensure compliance with sales tax, VAT, and business license regulations, including approving payments and reconciling tax accounts.
+ Lead Audits and Inquiries. Direct sales and use tax, VAT, and business license audits, resolve auditor inquiries, and implement findings across the organization.
+ Manage Customer Exemptions. Oversee exemption certificate processes, customer setups, and provide W-9s and vendor resale forms as needed.
+ Optimize Tax Systems. Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for Vertex O Tax Software, ensuring accurate tax rules, product setups, and system maintenance while collaborating with IT on system updates and validations.
+ Provide Tax Expertise. Research and resolve tax questions, maintain up-to-date knowledge of sales tax laws, and guide the organization in minimizing tax exposure.
+ Support International Taxation. Oversee activities related to Canadian GST, PST, and QST returns, as well as Puerto Rico sales tax filings and compliance.
+ Streamline Processes. Develop and implement strategic initiatives to mitigate risks, enhance compliance, and resolve unique scenarios for independent sales reps and customers.
+ Deliver Accurate Reporting. Oversee journal entries, account reconciliations, and annual budget computations for tax-related accounts.
+ Typical/expected % of overnight travel: none to minimal

Our Finance team combines traditional financial planning, analysis and accounting with collaborative business decision-making and strategy, directly supporting leadership in Marketing, Sales, Digital & Operations. Team members are expected to analyze data and provide recommendations across our specialized products lines including Yearbooks, Class Rings, Graduation Products and Professional Sports. Through the utilization of best-in-class technical software, such as Tableau, SAP BPC, Oracle, Salesforce, & the Microsoft Suite, you will get to play a critical role in determining financial solutions that steer our business. Our Finance team is comprised of several subgroups, including decision support, FP&A, operations and corporate, but our success is directly related to a culture of cross-team collaboration.
