Job Title: Sales and Use Tax Audit SpecialistJob Description Assist in managing state and local sales and use tax audits and controversy matters across 50 states for over 140 companies, with a $175M annual liability on $25B of income. Proactively monitor audits to close them favorably and expeditiously, defend tax positions through strategic analysis and tax technical research, collaborate with cross-functional tax and operational teams, assess ASC 450 reserves related to audits, and guide and mentor staff while developing relationships with key stakeholders. Responsibilities + Reconcile large data sets in Excel. + Pull invoices, journal entries, etc., from various systems to support taxability decisions. + Research various products and purchases to determine taxability. + Monitor and manage state and local sales and use tax audits. + Defend tax positions through strategic analysis and tax technical research. + Collaborate with cross-functional tax and operational teams to defend tax returns. + Assess ASC 450 reserves related to audits. + Guide and mentor staff, developing relationships with key stakeholders. Essential Skills + Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or Economics. + At least 2 years of experience with public accounting, corporate tax, and/or accounting at a firm, State department of revenue, or company. + Experience with project management. + At least 2 years of experience in indirect tax and/or audit management. + Advanced Excel skills including pivots, VLOOKUP's, and zlookups. + Strong understanding of sales and use tax. + Analytical and research-minded with great attention to detail. Additional Skills & Qualifications + High school diploma/GED with at least 4 years of experience in public accounting, corporate tax, and/or accounting at a firm, State department of revenue, or company. + Preferred experience with SAP, Ariba, and user-friendly home-grown systems. + High-volume experience in a retail or pharmacy setting is helpful. Work Environment The Direct and Indirect Tax teams work closely together, reporting to managers specializing in indirect (sales/use tax) and direct (income tax) taxes. The VP is very involved in the processes. The role requires being in the office three days per week, typically from Tuesday to Thursday, at a convenient location in Deerfield. The work environment is collaborative and not too formal, providing a great opportunity to gain experience in sales use tax and audit within a leading retail pharmacy company.
