How you'll make an impact We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated State and Local Tax Manager or early Senior Manager to join our growing tax team. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional with 7-10 years of experience in state and local taxation. The candidate will play a critical role in achieving positive business outcomes with a fast growing fortune 500 company. Key Responsibilities: State and Local Tax Compliance: manage the preparation of state and local income/franchise tax returns and related filings through our co-sourcing arrangement with our tax preparer, dealing predominately with preparation of corporate returns and oversight of responses to notices. Tax Provision (ASC 740): assist with the preparation of income tax provisions in compliance with ASC 740, as it relates to state income tax matters. Review and analyze tax provision workpapers, ensuring the accuracy of current and deferred tax calculations. Technical Tax Analysis: Provide in-depth technical tax analysis on state and local income tax matters, including nexus, apportionment, credits, and incentives. Offer guidance on complex state tax issues, including income/franchise taxes, sales/use taxes, and property taxes. Tax Strategy & Planning: Assist with tax planning strategies for state and local tax savings opportunities, including tax credits, incentives, and restructuring opportunities. Collaborate with internal teams to optimize tax positions. Team Leadership and Development: Mentor and provide leadership to junior tax staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment. Review and manage staff work product to ensure quality and efficiency. Research & Technical Expertise: Stay updated on the latest state tax laws and regulations. Special Projects: assist with special projects as needed, including state audits, tax controversy matters, and strategic planning initiatives. About You Required: Bachelor's degree and 8 years related experience required. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s in Taxation a plus). 7-10 years of progressive experience in state and local taxation, with a focus on complex state tax issues. Prior experience in public accounting, large corporate tax departments, or tax consulting firms is highly preferred. Strong working knowledge of ASC 740, including income tax provision and related reporting requirements. Deep expertise in state and local taxation, with the ability to navigate complex state tax laws and regulations. Experience with tax compliance, tax returns, and the preparation of financial statements in relation to state and local taxes. Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Proficient in tax software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
