Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) and Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DOD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, with the Directorate of Industrial Operations, Process Support Division. Responsibilities Prepare sandblasting bays, charters, and booths. Remove matter from items such as rust, scale, and paint. Operate abrasive blasting equipment to clean metal and nonmetal surfaces. Prepare items for painting after sandblasting. Sort work and set up equipment according to standard procedures. Follow proper safety procedures when using sandblasting equipment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Sandblaster ~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common Sandblaster duties to include sorting work based on type and nature of item; preparing items for blasting by masking or covering; loading correct abrasive required for item type; operating stationary/portable sandblasting equipment; and maintaining equipment using maintenance manual instructions and following safety procedures. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work requires standing, bending, and reaching in strained or awkward positions for prolonged periods of time. Lifts and carries items or material that weigh up to 40 pounds and controls nozzles or lines with extremely high pressures. Working Conditions: Work is inside under varied temperatures, light, and ventilation conditions and is exposed to dirt, dust, noise, and flying objects. Incumbent is subject to cuts, burns, bruises, and broken bones and is required to wear protective equipment, such as ear protection, respirators, goggles, protective clothing and gloves, and safety shoes. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
