This internship program is for UMary students that will be enrolled in their sixth semester and engaged in full-time study during the summer semester. You will be working 18 - 24 hours per month. The program will start with 1 week of orientation and then you will begin with your specific department, paired with a preceptor for an internship experience!There is opportunity in a variety of areas including - Acute Medical, Med/Surg Flex (1NW), Neurology, Oncology, Cardiology, Orthopedics, Med/Surg, and the Float Pool.
Our goal for you is that throughout this experience you will gain confidence and become more competent with your nursing skills that you have already completed in nursing school. You will work side-by-side with a nurse to learn patient care, develop skills, work on time management, and much more!
Summary
The Sanford nursing intern participates in a learning experience designed to develop confidence and competence in clinical skills to facilitate a smooth transition into a licensed role after graduation. The internship program assists students in finding an area of nursing clinical practice that best fits their career goals, talents and interests. The intern will be mentored by an licensed professional in his/her specialty to strengthen clinical skill sets.Job Description
The intern cares for patients in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up as patients move in and out of care settings. The intern discovers enhanced ways of communicating and supporting patients, learning what it is like working as a licensed professional in their field, while following a real schedule. Performs tasks of direct and indirect patient care and supports the activities of the department. Utilizes appropriate population-specific patient care protocols and policies related to the physical and psychological needs of all ages of patients. Embodies the vision and values that are compatible with Sanford Health. The intern functions within the scope and standards of practice as outlined in the state specific regulations.
Qualifications
Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited RN program (associate or bachelor degree) and have participated in an academic clinical experience.
Must be enrolled in a board of licensed clinical practice approved internship course. This does not apply to internships held in the state of South Dakota.
