Sanitation Lead, Pennsauken, NJ About the role:

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Sanitation Site Coordinator/Lead is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of the food manufacturing facility, including production areas, equipment, and surrounding environments. This role ensures compliance with food safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies while striving to improve operational efficiency and maintaining a safe, hygienic, and productive environment. The position involves leading a team of sanitation technicians, implementing sanitation programs, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure the highest standards of hygiene and food safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Sanitation Program Management:
+ Develop, implement, and oversee sanitation programs and cleaning schedules for all facility areas, including production, packaging, storage, and common areas.
+ Ensure adherence to sanitation standard operating procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP), and other regulatory guidelines.
+ Plan and schedule the Sanitation Master Plan.
+ Update and generate Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) as needed.
+ Verify and validate functions according to the work sche
+ dule.
Team Leadership & Training:
+ Lead, supervise, and develop the sanitation team, including training, scheduling, and performance evaluation.
+ Identify training needs for sanitation personnel and validate/document training completion.
+ Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and teamwork.
+ Assist with new employee orientation and training.
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Control:
+ Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, FDA, USDA, and EPA standards.
+ Assist with internal and external audits, inspections, and certifications, ensuring compliance with sanitation and safety standards.
+ Participate in QMS, FSSC22000, and customer audits and implement any necessary improvements.
+ Maintain records related to sanitation activities, cleaning logs, and other required documentation.
+ Conduct regular inspections and verification tests (e.g., ATP testing, visual inspections) to ensure the effectiveness of sanitation procedures.
Inventory & Supplies Management:
+ Monitor and manage sanitation supplies and chemical inventory to ensure adequate stock levels and proper usage.
+ Ensure that cleaning chemicals and supplies are stored, handled, and disposed of per safety and regulatory standards.
+ Manage and control sanitation chemicals, inventory, purchasing, and supplier evaluations.
Safety & Environmental Compliance:
+ Promote and enforce a culture of safety within the sanitation department, ensuring the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe chemical handling practices.
+ Ensure that sanitation activities do not interfere with production safety or product quality.
+ Coordinate and verify pest control supplier activities.
+ Monitor compliance with policies related to glass, sharps, and brittle materials.
Continuous Improvement & Coordination:
+ Identify areas for process improvements, cost reductions, and increased efficiency in sanitation practices.
+ Research and recommend new sanitation technologies, tools, and methods that enhance cleaning efficiency and reduce downtime.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., production, maintenance, quality) to enhance facility hygiene and operational efficiency.
+ Participate in shift turnover meetings and emergency coordination with production teams.
Qualifications & Requirements:
+ Education:Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Industrial Engineering, Food Industry, Food Technology, or a related field.
+ Experience:Minimum of 3 years in a food manufacturing sanitation role with leadership responsibilities.
+ Knowledge:
+ Strong understanding of sanitation protocols, food safety regulations, and continuous improvement methodologies.
+ Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, FSMA, QMS, and FSSC22000 audit requirements.
+ Experience as an internal auditor under GFSI or equivalent standards.
+ Familiarity with pest control management and chemical handling procedures.
+ Skills:
+ Strong leadership, training, and team development skills.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication at different organizational levels.
+ Ability to analyze and solve problems efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and SAP.
+ Strong multitasking, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
+ Ability to work in a high-noise environment and lift/carry up to 50 pounds occasionally
