Sanitation Manager

Overview The Sanitation Manager is responsible for maintaining and improving the overall sanitation standards within our food manufacturing facility. This includes developing, maintaining, and executing the Master Sanitation Schedule and SSOP’s for the facility, as well as ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, customer expectations and industry best practices. Directs and manages the overall housekeeping and sanitation of food contact areas and manufacturing equipment to ensure compliance to required company standards for cleanliness at the plant. Assures quality and safety while achieving established goals and objectives. This position will work primarily first shift hours with some off-shift hours or weekend work as needed Responsibilities Promotes integrity, respect, accountability, continuous improvement and positive interactions with all Team Members, customers & vendors. Performs comprehensive assessments of the manufacturing processes, equipment, and work environments to identify potential health hazards, such as biological, chemical, physical, and ergonomic factors. Directs and supervises sanitation employees. Develops and implements effective control measures and strategies to mitigate identified hazards and minimize employee exposure. This includes recommending engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary. Coordinates the master sanitation schedule/program for all processing and packaging equipment and storage vessels in accordance with company and FDA standards. Continuously evaluates and improves industrial hygiene programs, policies, and procedures based on industry advancements, best practices, and emerging issues. Propose and implement proactive measures to enhance workplace safety and health. Stays up to date with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to industrial hygiene and food manufacturing. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards. Conducts routine inspections of the facility, production areas, storage areas, and other workspaces to identify compliance issues and potential health risks. Assists in plant investigations as required and provides recommendations and guidance on corrective actions. Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on health and safety practices, including proper handling of hazardous materials, PPE usage, and emergency procedures. Responsible for meeting established sanitation objectives and controls and minimizes the overtime labor costs, maintenance / repair costs and equipment downtime. Responsible for and coordinates shift activities through planning and communication with employees to ensure all sanitation objectives are accomplished in a timely, cost-effective and safe manner. Collaborates with cross-functional partners to ensure standards are well interpreted and followed. Monitors CIP equipment to ensure proper operation and required documentation by shift personnel. Monitors the usage & storage of all cleaning/sanitizing chemicals and agents to ensure compliance to safety requirements & no unauthorized access or usage occurs. Responsible for & maintains positive employee, corporate and community relations along with appropriate interface with customer service, vendors & contractors. Regular Attendance is required in accordance with Company attendance policy and procedures. Performs tasks or responsibilities as assigned by Plant Director. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred. Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation is strongly desired. Minimum of 5 years of experience in Industrial Hygiene/Sanitation, preferably within the food manufacturing industry. Solid understanding of applicable regulations, guidelines, and standards related to industrial hygiene, such as OSHA, EPA, and FDA regulations. Proficient in conducting risk assessments, exposure monitoring, and implementing control measures. Experience in developing and delivering training programs related to industrial hygiene and safety. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and analyze complex data sets. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate findings, recommendations, and regulations to diverse audiences. Detail-oriented and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. The employee is regularly exposed to fumes, odors, dust, oil, slippery floors and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the plant is loud. Earplugs, safety glasses, hairnets, beardnets (if facial hair exists) and steel toed / slip-resistant shoes are required in the plant in accordance with company GMP and safety standards.
