Satellite Manufacturing Engineer
GA’s Electromagnetic Systems (EMS) Group focuses on the military and commercial applications of advanced electromagnetic technologies, including power generation and distribution, magnetic levitation, laser and weapons systems, and systems design and engineering. The EMS Group supports government customers, which include the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, the Department of Transportation as well as a range of commercial customers.
 
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Satellite Manufacturing Engineer in our EMS Space Systems Manufacturing group.  With consultative direction, this position exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives for the assembly and integration of hardware for multiple Space Systems programs.  Functioning in a leadership role, this person is responsible for assembly and integration of satellites (subassembly & spacecraft-level assembly), test support, providing consultation on technical issues, overseeing cleanroom operations, and meeting various compliance, reporting, and safety standards.  Assignments are normally outlined in terms of broad objectives, program schedules, and critical deliverables requiring special attention. This individual will lead a team of moderately experienced professional staff.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Plan, schedule, and support the execution of space systems manufacturing activities by leading small teams of satellite manufacturing engineers and technicians in executing assembly, integration, and test (AI&T) procedures.Oversee cleanroom operations, including contamination control protocols, configuration of workstations/bays, procurement of equipment and tooling, and coordination with facilities personnel for periodic maintenance.Provide input to systems engineers and design engineers to enhance manufacturability of satellite components, subassemblies, and mechanical ground support equipment (MGSE), tooling, and fixturing. Provide input to test engineers to optimize module-level and/or spacecraft-level test plans.Review lift plans, packaging, handling, shipping, and transportation procedures.Implement ongoing process and facilities operations development, including training of technicians and certification of production facilities. Review and provide input for manufacturing bills of materials, manufacturing work instructions, routers, and technical or programmatic documentation related to space vehicle assembly, integration, and test.Develop innovative and practical solutions to technical barriers. Identify, investigate, analyze and resolve complex and non-routine manufacturing engineering issues to keep production moving on schedule. Represent the Space Systems Manufacturing Team as the primary technical interface with GA-EMS program management, customers, and/or government regulatory agencies.  Presents status reports and technical information at recurring weekly or monthly engineering and manufacturing meetings, and/or quarterly program reviews.Understand all applicable process, procedures and provide continual input to improve and streamline those processes.  Maintain a productive and safe working environment in accordance with established operating procedures, workmanship standards, best practices, and all applicable regulations.Travel up to 25% as needed to support manufacturing needs.Perform other duties as assigned or required.
