Patient Access Scheduler

Position Description:
The Central Scheduler performs a range of tasks related to scheduling and coordinating patient’s appointments to primarily ensure that the patient’s needs are met in a timely and efficient manner.
• Assigns the correct medical record and account number; therefore, providing a database which ensures accurate billing and clinical information.
• Obtain and verify demographic information, insurance benefits and eligibility.
• Schedule / Cancel / Re- schedule patient’s appointments, lab work or other testing.
• Communicate with patients regarding their appointment details, changes, and cancellations.
• Manage and prioritize appointment requests based on urgency and availability.
• Notifies patients, family members, physicians and/or supervisors of insurance coverage issues, notifies patients of co-payments, deductibles or deposits needed, documenting all information in computer system.
• Will actively use scheduling software and medical record software to schedule appointments and answer questions from patients.
• Provide assistance and respond to patient needs, including addressing patient queries regarding appointment schedules.
• Completes Medicare Compliance and obtains ABN if necessary.
• Knowledge of all Federal, State and Local Laws pertaining to insurance rules and regulations
• Consistently demonstrate outstanding customer service to patients, visitors, physicians, and staff.
• Ability to also work well in team environment and with members of all service areas to help ensure smooth and efficient patient flow.
• Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding patient information.
• Is required to fill in as Patient Access Representative as staffing needs and patient volumes require
• Completes all shift duties in a timely and accurate manner.
• Complies with all hospital / company safety regulations, policies and procedures.
Requirements:
• Previous experience in a hospital setting, medical office, or a high-volume customer service environment; previous scheduling experience preferred.
• Experience with electronic medical record systems
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
