Scheduler - (S) - Physician Office - Tuckahoe Orthopaedics & Physical Therapy - Richmond

Full Time - Monday -Friday

PRIMARY FUNCTION/GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION

Under the supervision of the Department Supervisor or Manager, the Scheduler is responsible for accurately scheduling, register, verifies pre-authorization and referrals are on file, confirms and maintains patient diagnostic appointments, surgeries and/or medical consultations scheduling and pre-registering patient appointments for all designated departments in addition to performing tasks related to these functions in a work queue and incoming call requests for the Bon Secours - Tuckahoe Orthopedics clinics, hospitals, and ambulatory surgery center.

The Scheduler accurately obtains required information for hospital and physician records, governmental requirements, billing and third-party payer needs. This position also provides courteous and efficient services to patients and accurately documents/verifies patient pre-registration information in a professional and timely manner with the care team.

The workday is Monday through Friday.

Cross training to supporting the Patient Service Representative team as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Direct accuracy for scheduling patient appointments and accurately performs record specific information of each patient chart.Notify appropriate staff members of special needs and/or interpretation services for visit.Enter appropriate data into demographics, insurance, guarantor, PCP etc. including workers compensation and third-party payor information.Answers phone and communicates with Physicians, clinical team and leadership when needed to build daily schedules including adjusting daily templates for provider time off.Works with minimal supervision.Contacts and confirm appointment with outside organization for internal and outgoing referrals.Participates as a team member by performing additional assignments not directly related to the job description when workload requires and as requested by leadership.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The following qualifications are the minimum requirements necessary to adequately perform this job.  However, any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities would be acceptable, subject to any legal and/or regulatory requirements.

HS DiplomaOne year computer experience required.Requires strong customer service skills. Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills Good working knowledge of medical terminology

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bi-lingual, not required.Graduate from a Junior College or two years of college considered.Must be able to type 50 words per minute with accuracy.Experience in a customer service setting.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

Clear, distinct diction and audio acuity is essential for communicating with physicians, visitors, and co-workers.Schedule mutually acceptable appointment times for patients and physicians using computerized scheduling system.Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocols.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff and management.Effectively cope with typical job stress.Document work processes as required.Perform other duties as assigned.Adheres to Bon Secours and St. Francis Health System rules, regulations, and polices.Performs other duties as assigned.  Assists and supports other departments when needed.Role models professional behaviors, always approaches and attitudes – particularly in stressful and conflicting situations.Consistently presents a professional image for Bon Secours Medical Group
