Position Summary:

 

Responsible for timely scheduling, pre-authorization, pre-registration, registration and point of service collections for scheduled appointments and procedures, and for registration and point of service collections for non-scheduled patients, receiving care at all Kootenai Health locations.

     

Responsibilities:

 
Performs accurate insurance verification, pre-authorization, scheduling and patient estimates in advance of patient care
Provides scheduling and registration services for inpatient, outpatient, and Emergency Department
Schedules procedures and visits in compliance with business line and clinic-specific workflows, in coordination with each department’s specified patient care and provider needs
Determines financial responsibility through patient estimate calculations, and communicates to patients prior to service date, including network benefits, out-of-pocket costs, as well as Good Faith Estimate for uninsured patients in compliance with the No Surprises Act
Obtains and validates required referral information, including physician orders, clinical records, demographic, and benefit and eligibility information
Meets payor pre-authorization requirements to secure full insurance or government payer reimbursement
Documents all required scheduling, financial clearance, and registration information, including patient estimate, in appropriate Epic modules, to ensure a complete and legal record is recorded
For uninsured patients, identifies and verifies active payer sources for patients, or refers to financial counseling for third-party linkage or financial assistance
Provides courteous and efficient service to patients, accurate documentation/verification of patient pre-registration information, and professional and timely communications with medical staff and administrators
Assists in denials reduction through review and research of registration, authorization or medical necessity claims denials as needed; reports findings to department manager
As needed, educates patients on insurance policy limitations, self-pay obligation, payment plan or financing options; Refers uninsured patients to Financial Counseling for financial assistance or Medicaid linkage
Communicates with patients, physicians, payers, families, financial counselors, transitional care or transfer center staff, or other Kootenai Health partners
Performs other related duties as assigned
Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned


         

Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:

 
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
Bachelors’ degree in Business Management or closely related field preferred
Minimum of 6 months prior customer service experience required
2 years’ experience working in a hospital, medical office, or health insurance setting, with third party government program or commercial insurance familiarity, specifically registration and insurance verification preferred
Previous Epic or other hospital scheduling/registration and clinical software experience preferred
Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10 and HCPCs codes preferred
Medical Terminology certificate preferred
Surgical, diagnostic, and/or office visit scheduling, patient accounts, and/or practice assistant experience, preferred
Previous Epic software experience in Radiant, Cupid, Cadence, ADT, and/or other Epic modules, preferred
Strong customer service skills and patients/customer centered focus in positive manner in all situations
Excellent communication skills (telephone, written, inter-personal and customer-relation)
MOAB Certification during Kootenai Health Essentials required

Typical equipment used in an office and clinical job
