Schlegel Sand and Gravel Equipment Operator - St. Johns, MI

Essential Job Functions:

(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all tasks that may be found in this position.)

Operate equipment in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant policies, procedures, and MSHA regulations. Perform daily shift safety and maintenance checks. Clean equipment as scheduled and/or required. Clean work area as required. Ensure equipment is safely and securely stored. Advise the maintenance shop of any requirements for maintenance or repairs. Participate in daily routine maintenance (example: greasing, fluid checks, brake checks, airline checks, etc.). Train and direct other employees as required. Advise Management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous. All other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of workplace safety and requirements for each piece of equipment trained upon Ability to operate equipment trained upon skillfully and safely. Knowledge of equipment maintenance and storage procedures for equipment trained upon. Ability to read and write to record and maintain daily records. Ability to use good judgment and work independently under limited supervision.

 

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), bending, standing, climbing or walking.  Must be able to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to natural elements.  Must wear the required safety apparel in all areas of the job function.

For the purpose of this job description, below are the 6 total equipment opportunities:

Training and Demonstration of the Production Loaders, Production Trucks, Water Truck, Dozers, Excavator and Grader will be considered one piece of equipment.

Equipment Tech III:   Operate 0 – 2 pieces of equipment.

Equipment Tech II:    Operate 3 – 4 pieces of equipment.

Equipment Tech I:     Operate 5-6 or more pieces of equipment.
