School Aide/Personal Aide

JOB SUMMARY   

School aides take direction from their lead teacher and may have a wide range of responsibilities. An instructional aide job description might include:

Taking attendance. Supervising students when the lead teachers is otherwise occupied. Working with small groups on specialized skill sets or projects. Providing extra assistance for those struggling with material. Providing advanced learning options for students who want to challenge themselves. Supervising workstations or activity centers. Assisting in preparing homework assignments and tests. Grading materials and entering them into online grade books. Walking young students to different specialty classes and supervising bus duty or parent drop-off and pick-up. Printing materials, preparing teaching materials and classroom supplies.

An instructional assistant job description may also include helping with organization and classroom management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Instructional school aides’ duties may include the following: Working at a slower or at an accelerated pace with the student. Providing support, such as reading questions or demonstrating examples.                        Ensuring the special needs student is comfortable and accepted among his peers.                  Assisting with physical disabilities that might impair educational progress. Protecting against outbursts or behavioral issues that may arise if a special education student is over stimulated, frustrated, or otherwise needs a break from the classroom. Functions as an ambassador for The Fedcap Group. Contributes to organization success by accepting new assignments, helping team members, learning new skills, and striving to improve team results.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Job Experience

The applicant must hold at least a high school diploma. Experience working with students with special needs is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, and other related software. Build strong interpersonal relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Work cooperatively with others on a team. Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills.  Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Maintain the highest level of confidentiality, integrity, and ethical practice. Analyze, make decisions, and resolve situations/problems effectively within the scope of responsibilities. Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies. Be patient and sensitive to individuals with disabilities.

Other

Demonstrable knowledge of and commitment to the mission, vision and goals of The Fedcap Group and execution of relevant policies and procedures.

Work Conditions

Work is typically performed in an office environment but may be required to perform job duties outside of the office setting.   

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Normal business hours: At times, must be willing to work beyond normal business hours as needed by operational needs and event schedules.
