About the Role

The School Nurse plays a critical role in promoting the health and well-being of students within the educational environment located at 136 School Street-2530C. This position is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care, including assessment, intervention, and follow-up for acute and chronic health conditions among school-aged children. The School Nurse collaborates closely with educators, parents, and healthcare providers to develop individualized health plans that support students' academic success and overall safety. Additionally, the role involves health education, emergency response, and the management of communicable diseases to maintain a healthy school community. Ultimately, the School Nurse ensures that students receive timely and appropriate healthcare services that enable them to thrive both physically and academically.

Job ResponsibilitiesConduct health assessments and screenings for students to identify health issues and provide appropriate care or referrals.Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans for students with chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or allergies.Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.Provide health education to students, staff, and families on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.Respond promptly to medical emergencies and coordinate care with emergency services when necessary.Maintain accurate and confidential health records in accordance with regulatory requirements.Collaborate with school staff, parents, and healthcare providers to support student health and academic performance.Monitor and manage communicable disease outbreaks and implement infection control protocols within the school setting.Minimum QualificationsCurrent and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license.Certification or experience in Pediatric Nursing or School Nursing.Completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent degree.Experience in medical/surgical nursing or related clinical practice.Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.Preferred QualificationsCertification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Nurse Practitioner (NP).Experience working in a school or pediatric healthcare setting.Advanced certifications in school health or pediatric nursing.Training in mental health first aid or behavioral health support.Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems used in school health services.Skills
