School Partnership and Clinical Placement Coordinator

The University will provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities. **JOB SUMMARY** This position serves to foster external relationships with schools and districts to meet the needs of students for placements related to student teaching and field experience placements in the Office of Clinical Experience. This position works with students on placements and builds and maintains systems. The position also instructs and supervises multiple student teaching candidates per year. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES** **School Partnerships** + Work to establish and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of area schools and districts whose philosophies and practices align with Hamline’s MAT program. This will include regular visits to existing partner schools and concerted efforts to build new partnerships. This individual will be visiting schools weekly, visiting all partner schools at least once a year and actively seeking to establish new partnerships. + Communicate consistently with MAT program faculty on the status of school partnerships, including successes and any challenges that may arise. Seek input from MAT faculty about school partnerships. + Facilitate communication and productive interaction between school partners and MAT faculty by communicating regularly with both groups and troubleshooting as needed. + Serve on and work closely with the Hamline-to-Hamline advisory group to help maintain this essential partnership. + Establish close partnerships with one middle school and one high school to expand opportunities for guided clinicals and other mutually beneficial projects. Use the Hamline-to-Hamline partnership as a model. + Communicate and correspond with all partner schools and districts in a professional and timely manner, with a goal of maintaining positive relationships and successful partnerships. Maintain clear and accessible records of correspondence and partner agreements for accreditation purposes (see recordkeeping below). + Serve as a permanent member of the Office of Clinical Experiences Committee, attending bi-weekly meetings and participating in decision-making regarding placement policies and petitions. **Student Teaching Placements** Prior to Student Teaching: + Work with MAT program faculty and the student-teaching coordinator to identify strong teaching placements for each teacher candidate. + Work with the Professional Experience Skills Specialist to ensure a smooth transition for all teacher candidates preparing to student teach. + Organize the background check process and facilitate communication between schools and teacher candidates for efficient completion of background checks. + Send placement information to the cooperating teacher and teacher candidate with enough time for them to build rapport before the start of the student-teaching experience. + Work with the student-teaching coordinator to ensure that Tier 2 teachers will have appropriate support and mentorship during student-teaching. + Work with the student teaching coordinator to provide appropriate training and support for teacher candidates, cooperating teachers, and student-teaching supervisors. During Student Teaching: + Work with the student-teaching coordinator to help facilitate successful experiences for teacher candidates and cooperating teachers; help to manage communication issues or other challenges that may arise; + Send out formal reminders to cooperating teachers and supervisors to conduct student-teaching evaluations at mid-semester and end of semester; help facilitate the collection of these evaluations. Toward the end of placements: + Remind students to thank their cooperating teachers both orally and in writing and request evaluations by cooperating teachers; + Send out a formal thank you from HSEL to the cooperating teacher and the principal. + Help facilitate the collection of student teaching evaluations by sending out reminders (with evaluation links) to cooperating teachers and students. **Clinical Placements** Work with MAT program faculty to: + Maintain an active and growing inventory of high-quality schools and teachers to use for clinical placements. + Identify high-quality clinical placements as needed for each semester. + Monitor placement success with a goal of continual improvement (reusing successful placements; phasing out problematic placements; actively seeking out new placement possibilities). Prior to placements: + Communicate placement information and general expectations to students, cooperating teachers, and course instructors as efficiently as possible and with a reasonable amount of time to complete the placement during the semester. + Organize the background check process and communicate clear instructions to students (both in writing and with visits to class, as requested by the instructor). During placements: + Work with course instructors to facilitate successful clinical experiences. + Help promote clear communication among students, cooperating teachers, and instructors. + Be available (in-person, online, and via email) to assist with questions and/or challenges as they arise. Toward the end of placements: + Help facilitate the collection of clinical evaluations by sending out reminders (with evaluation links) to cooperating teachers and students. + Remind students to thank their cooperating teachers both orally and in writing. + Send out a formal thank you from HSEL. **Recordkeeping** + Maintain clear and accessible records of: + All correspondence with partner schools, including formal agreements, MOUs, and contracts; + Needed documentation and records for cooperating teachers and supervisors (including qualifications, required training, and professional development); + Clinical placement information to ensure that teacher candidates have completed the scope requirements of their license prior to student teaching. + Work with the Professional Experience Skills Specialist and HSEL advising staff to develop an accessible, user-friendly system of record keeping for all clinical placements and clinical evaluations, including student teaching. This system must be available for accreditation purposes and for internal use. **Miscellaneous** Be available to perform other responsibilities related to clinical placements, as needed such as: + Supervising student teachers (anything beyond two supervisees will be eligible for overload pay). + Facilitating SEPBT conferences. + Providing professional development for cooperating teachers and student teachers. + Working with early career teachers (Hamline program completers) to provide mentorship and form professional learning communities. + Attending MACTE and other professional meetings as a Hamline’s clinical placement representative. + Participating in PELSB accreditation processes and site visits. + Supporting student-teaching seminar events, including preparatory, professional development, and celebratory events. + All other duties as requested **REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS** This position reports to the: Chair of Teacher Education This position does not supervise other employees. This position does not supervise student workers. **BUDGET MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES** This position is not responsible for the management of a budget. **REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND KEY COMPETENCIES** + Knowledge of public schools and community resources for on-going collaboration and service-related education project efforts. + Ability to identify and maintain positive relationships with various constituencies. + Experience and sensitivity working with individuals from diverse backgrounds (including internal and external constituents) and work under pressure in a dynamic work environment with poise and professionalism + Demonstrated excellent student service skills, including proven ability to respond to student needs in a positive, timely and professional manner + Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills + Ability to handle highly confidential and/or sensitive information, materials and situations appropriately + Ability to prioritize workload, work independently, take initiative, and handle multiple tasks in a professional and organized manner + Excellent time management skills and ability to pay strong attention to detail while meeting deadlines + Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions + Proven ability to adapt and learn new procedures and programs + Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment to identify, develop, and maintain improved systems for tracking and serving students + Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps, and database management. **MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE** + Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited university or sufficient work experience demonstrating ability to perform the duties of this position + Three (3) years’ experience as a teacher or related position within P-12 setting. + Two (2) plus professional use of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps, and database management. + Occasional night and or weekend work is required **PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE** + Master’s degree in education from an accredited college or university. + Three (3) years' experience working with state licensure requirements in a professional setting. **REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION** + Current Minnesota Teaching License. **WORKING CONDITIONS / EQUIPMENT** With or without reasonable accommodations, must be able to: + Work on a computer for extended periods of time. + Have ability to travel on and off campus locations. + Have ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions. **ADDITIONAL INFORMATION** + This position is a full-time, 1.0 FTE, exempt position, 12 months a year. + This position may require overtime during peak seasons. + Occasional night and or weekend work is required.
