Job Description:

Provide supports to students, staff andfamilies in a public school setting.  Support the students’ socialemotional development and academic progress. Possess knowledge of researchbased practices to assist students at the elementary or secondary school levelwith mental health concerns, behavioral concerns, positive behavioral supportsand classroom supports. Provide individual and group counseling/therapy tostudents. Provide coaching and modeling to facilitate the active involvement ofstudents in their educational setting. Support the student and families withreferrals to appropriate community resources and crisis interventions asneeded.  Provide check-in opportunities to students, staff, and familieswhile communicating a “care team” approach to support the social emotionalwell-being of all. Ability to collaborate with staff, administrators, serviceproviders and families in the development and implementation of appropriatechange strategies and interventions. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholdersto identify community resources for students and families and coordinate neededservices.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Develop positive and collaborative relationships with students, parents and family members, and mental health providers.  Assist families in obtaining resources in the community and school.  Partner with the District Homeless Education Liaison to assist and support students and families entitled to or receiving McKinney-Vento services Develop positive and collaborative relationships with classroom staff, school mental health and behavioral support staff who provide academic and behavioral instruction and intervention.  Provide daily or weekly check-in opportunities for students, families and staff for social, emotional well-being Provide direct modeling or consultative support to classroom staff, and 504 and IEP Teams to help ensure consistent implementation of behavioral interventions.  Provide direct or indirect supports to assist with accurate data collection of target behaviors and positive/alternative skills.  Facilitate individual, group, and family counseling sessions.  Provide direct and indirect crisis intervention, as well assist with staff efforts to teach and shape coping skills, emotional regulation and conflict resolution.  Manage student referrals, reporting, court and family involvement and follow-up, as related to problems with student attendance and truancy. Assist with the coordination of services for students and families, as related to attendance issues and truancy. Monitor students with attendance issues and facilitate actions as related to truancy laws. Collaborate with school principals and appropriate staff relative to student referrals for attendance problems, including periodic status reports and follow-up. Collect and analyze appropriate data and prepare reports, as required. Assist the school in the development and implementation of an effective parent communication network to inform families of school programs, and school and community resources. Assist parents with navigating and supporting their children in their educational development. Conduct home visits to the physical address of the student/family. Ensure student confidentiality
