School Social Worker - Virtual Learning Academy
10-Month Position Commencing September 2025 MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: The BT BOCES Virtual Learning Academy is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and experienced Social Worker to provide support to students in grades 7-12. As a Social Worker, you will play a vital role in ensuring the mental health and well-being of our students, helping them navigate the challenges of virtual learning, and promoting a positive and supportive school environment. This will be a hybrid position. Key responsibilities include: + Provide counseling to students, addressing academic, social, and emotional challenges + Conduct assessments to identify students' needs and collaborate with teachers and parents to develop support plans + Offer crisis intervention and conflict resolution support as necessary. + Monitor and support the mental health and social-emotional development of students. + Provide referrals to community resources and outside agencies as needed. + Participate in meetings with parents, school staff, and other professionals to create holistic support for students + Develop and deliver social-emotional learning resources and activities tailored to the virtual learning environment + Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student interactions and progress. + Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Job Qualifications REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: + NYS Certification in School Social Work + Licensed Master Social Worker required + Experience working in a school setting (grades 7-12) + Strong knowledge of social-emotional learning and mental health resources + Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal + Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team + Ability to foster strong relationships with students and families in a virtual environment + Familiarity with virtual learning platforms and technology tools preferred + Experience with providing counseling virtually preferred + Strong understanding of mental health issues, specifically with anxiety, school avoidance, educational systems, and community resources preferred Civil Service Title: School Social Worker Job Number: 25-137
