Raytheon are looking for a full-time data engineer whose technical skills and interests are focused on data management, documentation, and curation approaches applied to remote sensing and Earth science data systems. Applicants should have experience in data management, particularly in evaluation and integration of heterogeneous oceanographic datasets. Applicants should also be broadly familiar with remote sensing types and applications, Earth science metadata standards, and common science data formats like HDF and netCDF.
This position is a remote role.

What You Will Do
Work with the PO.DAAC operations team and data providers to track and move datasets through the various stages of data publication
Develop scripts and approaches for efficient and high-quality QA/QC of datasets ingested into the archive
Enhance user experience and usability of the datasets, including documentation
Prepare scripts, tutorials, and workshops to enhance the use of PO.DAAC services and datasets
Provide scientific and technical support for remote sensing data distribution tools and services (List specific day to day expectations for this role)
Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires a Doctorate in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred) and a minimum of five years of prior engineering experience or equivalent experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
Experience operating a complex system capable of processing and archiving large amounts of data
Experience working within an environment that supports a science community
Experience with operations in a cloud environment
Project management experience and experience working with a DevOps team and experienced with agile software development and familiar with CI/CD tools
Quantitative and qualitative data engineering experiences with data modeling, ETL and scripting development
Experience transforming data in various formats, including JSON, XML, CSV, and zipped files
Experience with both normalized and dimensional data models, structured and unstructured data, and hands-on knowledge of data integration techniques
Experience with designing and implementing core architecture and capabilities for data management and processing from prototype to operational access and user support
Qualifications We Prefer
Demonstrated effective communication skills - skills to interact, communicate, present and influence both technical and science teams
Hands-on python programming experience
Experience using geographic information systems (GIS)
Experience supporting NASA data archiving processes, including data receipt, archiving, catalog population, documentation, access, and retrieval
Experience with AWS services including S3, EC2, Lambda, EMR, RDS, Data-pipeline and other big data technologies
Experience developing software using cloud-native principles like Dev-Ops, and Microservices

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
