At the Lilly Innovation Center in Boston, Massachusetts, we explore how next generation therapeutics, new technologies, data analytics and new care models can improve patient health and the healthcare system. Our Genetic Medicine team in Boston shares a passion for challenging conventional wisdom and creating an environment that embraces creative, break-through concepts. The Center offers a start-up environment with large company support. It is located in the heart of Massachusetts’ exploding science and technology cluster and is within walking distance of some of the best academic and industry innovators in the world.

The successful candidate will have a strong research track record in biology and be analytically minded, systematic, and embrace data-driven decision making. The scientist will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across key Lilly therapeutic areas (e.g. neuroscience, diabetes, immunology) to perform experiments to aid development of RNA oligonucleotide drug candidates for the next generation of RNA therapies.

Key responsibilities include:

Work with project team leads to design and plan in vivo experiments to support the preclinical characterization and evaluation of novel therapeutic molecules.Perform rodent handling and dosing, including but not limited to subcutaneous (SC), intravenous (IV), intraperitoneal (IP) and intrathecal (IT) injections.Perform small animal stereotaxic surgeries including but not limited to intracerebral (IC), intracisterna magna (ICM) and intracerebroventricular (ICV) injections in rodents.Perform tissue dissection, trimming and processing, collect bodily fluids (blood, cerebrospinal fluid).Process tissue samples for gene expression or protein endpointsSupport technology development for improving the delivery of novel therapeutics to regions of interest in the central nervous system or other tissues.Assist in troubleshooting technical challenges and provide scientific and technical input to project teamsHelp design and complete experiments and perform data analysisProvide written and verbal communication of work in lab reports and team meetingsAccurate recording of all practical work: completion of electronic notebook to Lilly procedure quality standardsGeneral laboratory assistance, including ordering and receiving lab supplies, preparation of reagents, and maintain laboratory equipmentEnsure compliance with all health and safety regulationsPassionate about contributing in the lab in a diverse and inclusive environment every day

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelors or Masters degree in biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or related scientific field.1+ years of work experience in the pharmaceutical industry, an academic laboratory, or similar settings

Additional Skills/Preferences :

Experience in developing and working with in vivo models and assays to support drug discovery programs.Hands-on competencies in designing and executing in vivo pharmacological experiments. Knowledge and understanding of drug delivery concepts is preferred.Strong expertise with in vivo tissue dissection and processing.Experience in gene expression assays (e.g. qPCR) or protein assays (e.g. Western blot or ELISA)Ability to adapt and exercise flexibility for changing platform needs, workflows and projects.Excellent communication skills and efficiency in collaborating across functional boundaries and in team environmentStrong organization skills, attention to detail, critical thinking, multitasking, desire to learn new techniques and contribute to innovative projects in a fast-paced working environmentExcellent interpersonal skillsExperience in processing, organizing, analyzing and visualizing data and information from disparate sources and ability to extract insight from dataFamiliar with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and analytical software associated with methods.
