Scientist 2 or 3, Human Tissue Lab
The Position

We advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love.

The Opportunity

Join our dynamic Human Tissue Lab (HTL) team within the Research Pathology Department. As a Scientist 2 or 3, you'll be integral in supporting our daily operations and human tissue procurement activities. Your role will involve:

Working with Scientists and Lab/Group Heads to identify requirements for the human tissue samples needed for experimentation, assessing feasibility with contracted vendors, and establishing the requisite contracts and purchase orders to facilitate the procurement of the samples.

Coordinating tissue sample shipments from vendors and academic collaborators and receiving incoming shipments of tissue samples; maintaining communication with lab personnel regarding incoming shipments.

Performing the procurement, receipt, import, storage and distribution of human and animal tissue samples -- such as formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) blocks and loose frozen tissue – on behalf of internal partners to support research and drug discovery efforts at Genentech.

Handling and importing digital records of tissue samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) following established business processes and data entry guidelines.

Fulfill stakeholder requests to search for, submit for processing, distribute, ship, and discard tissue samples, logging such activities into the LIMS or other informatics platforms. Adhere to timelines regarding both routine and high-priority requests and independently coordinate complex requests without direct supervision.

Training Pathology staff and stakeholders on HTL systems and processes.

Actively participate in recurring check-ins with HTL Manager as well as weekly team meetings; regularly present project and process updates at internal and external forums.
