Pay Range:
$81,900.00 - $134,550.00Position Summary:
The successful candidate will join a rapidly growing company with a multidisciplinary high-tech team of Engineers, Biologists, and Scientists to sustain and rapidly impact ProteinSimple platforms. The Scientist will work in research and development area of Process Engineering team with a focus on polymer synthesis, surface modification and establishing chemical formulations for new polymeric coatings. The Scientist will apply ISO standards during product and process transfers into Manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
Provides hands-on leadership in the design, synthesis, and characterization of polymeric coatings and works independently in a lab environment
Provides expertise in analytical chemistry with emphasis in polymer characterization
Improves yield, stability and consistency of synthetic coating methods and troubleshoots chemical processes
Performs biological assays on ProteinSimple platforms to assess performance of surface coatings, interprets results to determine next steps and iteratively improve processes
Develops deposition technology and surface cleaning protocols
Troubleshoots problematic reagents
Establishes and validates methods and protocols for new product and new processes
Analyses polymers and understands FTIR, DSC, TGA, DMA, GPC, GC, NMR, LC-MS, viscometry, rheology
Works hands-on to solve challenging technical problems driving continuous improvement efforts
Develops novel test methods to interrogate coating quality
Develops robust and repeatable procedures, SOPs, and processes for new products
Identifies process improvement opportunities and address documentation deficiencies
Works according to EHS regulations, follows company policies and practices
Must have the ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision
Performs additional duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
PhD in polymer chemistry, material science, chemical engineering, or a closely related discipline; and up to 5 years of relevant experience
OR, Master’s in polymer chemistry, material science, chemical engineering, or a closely related discipline; and 8+ years of relevant experience
Previous experience with polymer coatings, surface chemistry, polymer chemistry and characterization is a must
Previous experience developing protein immobilization coatings is desirable
Previous experience with biological assays utilizing proteins and antibodies is desirable
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Able to design experiments, interpret data, and make conclusions from analytical instruments, DSC, TGA, DMA, FTIR, viscometry; must understand the theoretical applications and limitations of the instruments
Have strong knowledge of the relationship between polymer structure and properties, familiarity with polymer synthesis and reactions
Experience in SOP writing
Good organization, planning, and critical thinking skills are required.
Self-starter and can handle projects independently with ambiguous and incomplete information
Meticulous and attention to details to troubleshoot and improve complex chemical processes
In-depth knowledge with practices, concepts, and innovation in surface functionalization
Must have strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and in writing and possess working knowledge of analytical, process-equipment, quality control systems and statistical software
The ability to work in a collaborative way
Fluency in data analysis and presentation using R, JMP, Python, or PowerBI, etc is desirable
Experience developing, writing, and releasing standard operating procedures
Exhibit a high degree of flexibility, teamwork, and commitment to continuous improvement
