Job Summary

Associate Scientist to Scientist I position requiring a M.S. in Microbiology or related degree with a preference for demonstrated experience in microbiology, genomics, molecular biology and biochemistry assays related to animal nutrition and health for poultry, ruminants, or companion pets.

We are currently seeking an Associate Scientist / Scientist I to strengthen our microbiology program that supports our Animal Nutrition and Health business. based in Wilmington, DE. The candidate will be working with a group of scientists with expertise in Microbiology, Molecular biology, Animal Science and Biochemistry. For this role, the candidate must have extensive laboratory experience in microbiology and molecular biology, and good knowledge of genomics approaches. In addition, background and experience in animal science related to poultry, ruminants or companion pets would be a plus. This will be a lab-based role with a focus on processing animal-based samples based on microbiological and genomic laboratory procedures.


Responsibilities
 

Actively interact with IFF Animal Nutrition & Health service laboratories, execute experiments to explore the impact of enzymes and microbes on animal nutrition and health. Actively participate in technical advancement and protocol optimization. Explore and implement new methods and technologies when needed.Contribute to R&D research projects related to animal models, executing microbiological assays, and conducting molecular biological and genomics studies. Generate and effectively communicate data, ideas, hypothesis etc. Prepare technical reports, data summaries, presentations, protocols, and other technical and regulatory documents.

Job Requirements
 

M.S. degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Animal Science, or other related biological disciplines.Demonstrated ability to design and plan experiments both independently and as a part of a highly interactive cross-disciplinary team.The ability to work in an interactive team environment that requires collaboration and respectful interactions with all team members.Ability to maintain an animal science focused laboratory with hands-on-mentality and a strong affinity for lab work. Goal oriented and capable of task-oriented delivery. Able to adapt to changes, drive multiple workstreams in parallel, and thrive in a fast-paced R&D environment and changing business environment.Demonstrated organizational skills and excellent attention to detail. Able to deliver consistent high-quality experimental data from Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Animal Science studies.

Preferred Experience

Lab experience in industry, academia, biopharma, biotechnology, or a government laboratory working in microbiology / molecular biology or biochemistry focused research. 3-5 years of experience with microbiological techniques such as aseptic technique, media preparation, serial dilutions, microbe culturing, etc. 3-5 years of experience with general molecular biology operations including DNA isolation and quantification, next-generation sequencing, qPCR, etc. Experienced with basic biochemical techniques including enzyme activity assays and ELISA assays. 1-3 years of research experience in animal sample collection and processing, including but not limited to tissues, blood, feces, feed, etc.Experience in the isolation, cultivation, and characterization of microorganisms and/or high throughput robotics for microbiological and/or biochemistry assays.Demonstrated ability to use existing software for data analysis, such as Excel, Spotfire, JMP, RStudio etc.
