Carlisle Weatherproofing Technologies (CWT) is a leading supplier of building envelope solutions that effectively drive energy efficiency and sustainability in commercial and residential applications. We are looking for a Scientist I in our Kimberton, PA office.

 

This position will be based out of our Kimberton, PA Facility, reporting directly to the Chemical Innovation Scientist, however, for the first three months (approximately), this position will be assigned to a critical new project that requires daily attendance at a remote R&D facility in Northern Delaware. Depending on progress, details on this arrangement could change.

 

Job Summary:

Carlisle Weatherproofing Technologies (CWT) is a leading supplier of building envelope solutions that effectively drive energy efficiency and sustainability in commercial and residential application. We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Organic Synthesis Scientist\Polymer Scientist\Scale-up Scientist to design, develop and implement new products and processes for building industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and conducting organic synthesis experiments, purifying and characterizing of the synthesized compounds. Our ideal candidate has first a solid knowledge of organic chemistry, excellent lab skills, and a strong understanding of organic synthesis techniques. The scaling-up responsibility is to contribute to the evaluating of new polymers up to 1 kg, and other monomeric starting compounds, ensuring quality and efficiency in the production process. The polymer responsibilities include conducting research, developing new concepts, overseeing laboratory testing, and troubleshooting and optimizing existing polymer systems. Ideal candidates should have a strong background in physical and organic chemistry, polymer synthesis, and material science related to building industry. Ultimately, the role of the scientist is to develop superior and innovative polymer products that meet the standards and requirements of building industry and customers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct research and development activities related to polymer synthesis and characterization. Develop new polymer systems for various applications. Oversee laboratory testing and evaluate the performance of polymer materials. Optimize existing polymer systems to improve product performance and cost. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. Prepare and present technical reports to management and clients. Stay updated with latest advancements in polymer science and technology. Contribute to patent applications and scientific publications. Provide training and guidance to junior scientists and technicians. Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Developing and formulating new polymeric materials with desired properties for various applications in building industry. Conducting research to understand the structure, properties, and performance of various polymer systems. Designing and conducting experiments to test the reliability and safety of polymeric materials. Interpreting data from experiments and presenting findings in scientific reports. Working with cross-functional teams to apply findings to the development of new products or processes. Maintaining accurate and detailed records of all research and development work. Assessing the environmental impact and sustainability of polymers and their manufacturing processes. Staying up-to-date with advances in polymer science and related fields. Ensuring all work complies with health and safety regulations. Collaborating with manufacturers to scale up production of new polymeric materials. Organic synthesis responsibility focuses on the study and creation of organic compounds and molecules for use in materials science and building industry. Design and execute organic synthesis experiments. Analyze and purify organic compounds using various techniques. Characterize synthesized compounds using spectroscopic methods. Document and report on experimental procedures and results. Collaborate with other team members on research projects. Stay updated with the latest scientific literature and technological advancements in the field. Ensure safety protocols are followed in the lab. Contribute to the development of patent applications and scientific papers. Conduct research and experiments to create and test organic compounds. Develop new synthetic methods and strategies. Design and execute multistep organic synthesis and purification strategies. Analyze and identify compounds using a variety of methods such as NMR, MS, and HPLC Document all experiments, findings, and methodology in detailed reports. Ensure that lab protocols are adhered to maintain safety and cleanliness. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of large research center including analytical chemists, process engineers, and biologists.

Education and Experience:

PhD/MS degree in Polymer Science, Organic Chemistry, Materials Science or a related field. Proven experience as an Organic/Polymer Scientist or similar role. Strong knowledge of organic chemistry and synthesis techniques, polymer synthesis, characterization techniques, and processing methods. Experience with analytical tools such as NMR, HPLC, and MS. Familiarity with polymer analysis techniques like GPC, FTIR, and DSC. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in using scientific software and databases, for example, SciFinder. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Working Conditions:

This position will be based out of our Kimberton, PA Facility, reporting directly to the Chemical Innovation Scientist, however, for the first three months (approximately), this position will be assigned to a critical new project that requires daily attendance at a remote R&D facility in Northern Delaware. Depending on progress, details on this arrangement could change. Work located in one of the best Innovative centers on East coast, which made up of more than 130,000 square feet of state-of-the-art multi-use lab space, our facility is safe, and secure.
