The Position
Novo Nordisk is seeking a highly motivated scientist to join its biophysics and formulation team in Lexington, Massachusetts. The candidate will be responsible for the formulation and characterization of peptides, proteins, small molecules, and oligonucleotides. This position will support therapeutic programs in multiple disease areas and will contribute to the development of novel drug delivery platforms.
Relationships
This position reports to the Head of Advanced Drug Delivery (Biophysics and Formulation).
Essential Functions
Utilize subject matter knowledge in biophysics, formulation, and drug delivery to design and select the appropriate dosage form for a drug product Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the selected dosage form meets the desired biophysical attributes of the lead candidate and contribute to the early screening strategies and execution Consider factors such as chemical, biochemical, biological, medical, devices, patents, and commercial aspects when making formulation decisions Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in biophysics and formulation-based drug delivery technologies and evaluate the potential benefits and applicability of new technologies to enhance drug delivery and formulation processes Provide recommendations on the acquisition and implementation of new technologies based on their potential impact and alignment with business objectives Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure successful integration and utilization of new technologies into the pipeline Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot lab instruments such as solid state and biophysical characterization equipment and drug product manufacturing processes Conduct laboratory work in safe, efficient manner that ensures a safe working environment for colleagues Implement automation strategies for performing high throughput biophysical screening
Qualifications
BS/BA Degree with 12+ years’ relevant experience required, years of experience may be substituted by advanced degree(s) as deemed appropriate, degree within subject matter expertise preferred Strong knowledge and expertise in biophysical characterization, formulation development, and drug delivery systems required Demonstrated experience in evaluating and implementing new technologies in biophysics and formulation-based drug delivery required Proficient in data analysis and interpretation for drawing conclusions and making recommendations, including advanced statistical models, e.g., DoE Experience with digitalization and automation, including process analytical technologies Experience in project management and working collaboratively with cross-functional teams Excellent scientific communication skills and ability to engage with stakeholders effectively Have strong attention to detail and ability to document experimental work with electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN) General knowledge of cGMP, GLP, and regulatory requirements for pharmaceutical industries a plus
