Job Description

Position Summary:

The Scientist II, Manufacturing Sciences will serve as the lead for projects related to development and improvement of DNA-based diagnostic reagents with minimum supervision.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Simultaneously lead and prioritize multiple projects and products across multiple functional groups while meeting target due dates under minimal guidance.Drive the day-to-day operations to maintain the workflowWork independently, or with peers, to actively improve processes and procedures, as well as identify, develop and implement solutions to tackle problems with moderate complexityDesign, create and/or provide experimental tasks to designated Scientist or self and complete data analysis using uType, SureTyper, Fusion, or equivalent softwareUnderstand and able to perform Scientist I job responsibilitiesTrain current and new Scientist I/II in lab functions/procedures/analysis and provide guidance and support throughout projects and product builds. Processes include reconstitution, quantification, QC test, organization and maintenance of all raw materials such as oligonucleotides, ancillary reagents, genomic DNAs, etc.Operate and train Scientists in the use of SAP, UV spectrophotometer, thermal cycler, agarose gel electrophoresis, UV image analyzer, genetic analyzer, qPCR instruments, Luminex instruments, high speed centrifuge and other hardwareMonitor performance of equipment/machines/tools and manufacturing processesUpdate and maintain required SOPs and quality records of equipment maintenance, tests, analyses and other relevant dataPrepare accurate and timely reports to Scientist III/ManagementImplement practical knowledge of PPI Business System/LEAN concepts, including continuous improvementBe able to identify individual goals, review and update Supervisor throughout the year and complete the Performance Management and Development (PMD) process

Key Responsibilities:

Understands and applies principles, concepts, theories and standards of HLA and scientific/technical field or software within own areaGood knowledge of related regulatory/industry considerations, compliance issues and/ or scientific discoveryKnowledge and extensive hands-on experience of molecular biology and recombinant DNA techniquesAbility to exercise independent judgment in decision making and execution of dutiesEfficiently handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneouslyDuring situations that have high impact to the business, communicate timely by bringing solutions and coordinating with SupervisorRead, understand and implement written laboratory proceduresCollects and organizes data in an appropriate mannerAbility to use PCs and MS Office for data input and/or analysisEncourages/challenges others and self for continuous improvementCollaborate and build productive cross-functional relationships with colleagues in other functionsDevelop skills to handle additional duties as assignedMaintain confidentiality of laboratory and business dataEnsure that safe laboratory procedures and protocols are followed at all timesEnsure compliance with corporate, site, and regulatory policies, practices, and guidelines

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Frequently work at lab bench, in low temperature freezers and at PC workstationsHandle blood samples and blood byproducts occasionallySome lifting of objects including laboratory instrumentation of 35 pounds

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Molecular Biology or related field required.Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a laboratory setting

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $66,000.00–$99,000.00.
