The Scientist II is primarily a bench level job focusing on real time PCR and RT-PCR assay and product development in an FDA-QSR and ISO9001 compliant organization. The candidate will plan and execute laboratory research, demonstrate appropriate technical proficiency, scientific creativity and collaboration with cross-functional departments. This position is part of the Biochip R&D team and will be located in Sunnyvale, CA, Onsite. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions. In this role, you will have the opportunity to: + Gain experience utilizing innovative technology to develop strategies for complex in vitro diagnostic assays. + Design, setup and execute laboratory experiments including data collection, summary, and critical analysis. The essential requirements of the job include: + Bachelor’s degree in field with 2+ years of related work experience OR Master’s degree in field with experience. + Proficiency in PCR, qPCR and RT-qPCR. In-depth knowledge of nucleic acid purification, and primer and probe design for real-time PCR/RT-PCR. + Experience in handling microbiological and clinical specimens, and working in a BSL-2 environment. Knowledge of biological and chemical safety. + Ability to work collaboratively to solve complex problems including optimization of multiplexed real-time quantitative PCR assays and/or developing new assays and/or test methods/procedures. + Proficiency with standard Microsoft computer programs and experience with statistical analysis tools such as Excel, Minitab, or JMP. It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in: + Knowledge of product development lifecycle process and design control. + Designing oligos for microorganism detection with experience/knowledge of melt probes designs. The salary range for this role is $82,000 to $126,000 USD. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future. This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
