We are currently seeking a scientist/microbiologist to strengthen our Animal Nutrition and Health research program, based in Wilmington, DE. The candidate will be working with a group of scientists with expertise in Microbiology, Molecular biology, Animal Science and Biochemistry, in addition to interacting with technical supports and customers from different animal farms. For this role, the candidate must have extensive laboratory experience in microbiology and molecular biology, and good knowledge of genomics approaches as well. In addition, background and experience in animal science especially poultry science is highly preferred. This will be a predominantly lab-based role with a focus on processing animal-based samples based on microbiological and genomic laboratory procedures, and communicating with internal collaborators on experimental designs and data processing.

Responsibilities
 

Actively interact with IFF business sector in Animal Nutrition & Health to understand our business models and business needs from R&D. Develop ideas and projects to address business-critical research needs, to answer customer-raised questions, to adopt the latest innovations and tools for R&D. Execute experiments to explore the impact of prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics on nutrition and health.  Actively interact with IFF Animal Nutrition & Health service laboratories, execute experiments to explore the impact of enzymes and microbes on animal nutrition and health.  Lead the timely execution of poultry-related lab-analysis procedures, the routine operation and maintenance of the poultry service laboratory. Assist the operation of laboratories serving other animals.Interact with IFF field support technical managers to provide in-lab technical support, suggestions and feedbacks for product-related research activities. Actively participate in technical advancement and protocol optimization within the animal service laboratories. Explore and implement new methods and technologies when needed.Contribute to R&D research projects related to animal models, especially poultry, by processing animal samples, executing microbiological assays, and carrying out molecular biological and genomics studies.  Generate and effectively communicate data, ideas, hypothesis etc. Prepare technical reports, data summaries, presentations, protocols, and other technical and regulatory documents.Provide technical guidance and training to junior researchers.
 

Job Requirements
 

PhD degree or Masters degree with 10 years experience in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Animal Science, Biochemistry, or other related biological disciplines. Experience with Animal Science especially poultry is preferred. 5 years of experience with microbiological techniques such as aseptic technique, media preparation, serial dilutions, microbe culturing, etc. 5 years of experience with general molecular biology operations including DNA isolation and quantification, next-generation sequencing, qPCR, etc. Experienced with basic biochemical techniques including enzyme activity assays and ELISA assays. General understanding of protein biochemistry is preferred.3 years of research experience in animal sample collection and processing, including but not limited to feed, poultry tissues, blood, feces, etc.Ability to maintain an animal science focused laboratory with hands-on-mentality and a strong affinity for lab work. Ability to establish new procedures for microbiological, biochemical, and genomic studies related to animal trials. Good knowledge of nutrition, gut health, disease challenge models, for animals especially poultry. Basic understanding of analytical chemistry related to GC and HPLC analysis. Demonstrated ability to use existing software for data analysis, such as Excel, Spotfire, JMP, RStudio etc. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-functional team to deliver on specific project goals. Proven ability to work and collaborate with others. Demonstrated team player and strong interpersonal skills.Goal oriented and capable of task-oriented delivery. Willing to learn new skills and techniques. Able to adapt to changes, drive multiple workstreams in parallel, and thrive in a fast-paced R&D environment and changing business environment.Demonstrated organizational skills and excellent attention to details. Able to deliver consistent high-quality experimental data.
