Scientist II - Asphalt

Carlisle Weatherproofing Technologies (CWT) is a leading supplier of building envelope solutions that effectively drive energy efficiency and sustainability in commercial and residential applications. We are looking for a Scientist II - Asphalt in our Kimberton, PA facility.

 

Job Summary:

Looking for a bright, hard-working scientist to join our dynamic research and development team. This role is responsible for participating in the execution of laboratory work across a variety of product lines including asphalts. The scientist is to assist with manufacturing of new and existing products, and to solve factory and field problems. The scientist plans their work, under the guidance of senior scientists, to meet objectives established by R&D Director.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct research in the areas of formulation modifications and potential new product development Develop new applications or customize existing applications to meet specific scientific project needs Summarize and communicate data results to the broader technology team and recommend new systems and processes to improve operations Document all work product in a clear and logical manner using standard scientific reports Provide input into quality control testing protocols as necessary Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

The individual will have preferable 3+ years laboratory work experience formulating asphalt blends, and asphalt emulsions Familiar with ASTM and AASHTO standard methods The individual will have a track record of executing technology projects from inception through completion. Demonstrated ability to take product concepts from the laboratory to the plant and ultimately to commercialization. Comfortable working and communicating with Operations/Manufacturing to facilitate scale-up; Possess an understanding of the chemistry, physical properties, processing and storage of finished product formulations and their potential utilization in other applications, as well as aging mechanisms; Experience in DSC, TGA, DSR, Instron, Iatroscan, and SEM a plus.

Essential Full Performance Skills:

Ability to work independently and take initiative, with the ability to evaluate new, unconventional ideas and apply them for improvement of the product performance. Proficiency in Microsoft products and laboratory tools. Demonstrated knowledge in laboratory safety. Exceptional attention to detail in all aspects of work with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to communicate effectively.

Education and Experience:

Required: Bachelors Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Chemistry, Material Science, or equivalent 3+ years of relevant laboratory experience specific to formulations

Working Conditions:

In addition to the standard laboratory and office environments, this position involves occasional work off-site at manufacturing facilities and job sites typical of the industrial trade.
