We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Radiation Diagnostics Scientist to work within our Energy division in support of the diagnostic development program in San Diego, CA. This position under general direction with limited reviews will apply innovative approaches to design novel radiation measurement systems for fusion research facilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Perform and analyze modeling and computational simulations of particle/matter interactions to study and predict effects on materials, systems, and health physics.Conceptualize, develop, demonstrate and improve radiation shielding and diagnostics techniques relevant to nuclear fusion radiation (neutrons, gamma-rays and x-rays)Develop and document data processing and analysis algorithms.Work with scientists, engineers, and technicians to develop, fabricate, integrate and implement the diagnostics at research facilities.Document all designs, analyses, test results and conclusions, and communicate results to staff and community via technical presentations and publications.Analyze, verify and improve the principles of innovative diagnostics concepts. This may involve the computational modeling of physical phenomena and interactions with fusion and plasma expert groups.In-person personnel are preferred but remote will be consideredPerform other duties as assigned.
