The Position
Arrowhead is seeking a highly motivated scientists to join our discovery chemistry team in San Diego, CA. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in synthetic chemistry and experience in property/structure-based molecular design. As part of a platform team in discovery chemistry, this individual will drive chemistry strategies and conduct structure-activity relationships to advance the delivery platform of siRNA modality.
This is a laboratory-based position.
Responsibilities
Design, synthesize, and characterize novel targeting moieties with siRNA constructs and siRNA-protein/peptide conjugates, with a focus on effective extrahepatic delivery strategy Stay updated with the latest advancements, including research papers and intellectual property literature in siRNA chemistry, conjugation strategies, and drug delivery systems to drive innovation and enhance project outcomes Work productively and safely in the laboratory and maintain good practice writing experimental reports in an electronic lab notebook Work closely with the biology therapeutic area (TA) group, design, and co-lead projects to advance our next-generation platform efforts through an improved understanding of mechanism and structure towards enhanced potency, safety, new target-ligand pairs, or other novel approaches Actively support our efforts towards the discovery of lead drug candidates and collaborate with our CMC department to transition novel modalities into development Track progress against project timelines, generate regular status updates, and communicate progress and issues to managementRequirements:
Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, or related discipline with 0-5 years post-degree experience in an industrial or academic setting Strong laboratory skills and experience with analytical instrumentation, such as HPLC, LC-MS, UV-Vis spectrometry, etc., Ability to work within cross-functional teams and work as a team player; possess a collaborative mindset with excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent presentation skills, and attention to detail Ability to recognize impactful areas of research and organize both individual and team efforts to investigate using a broad range of approachesPreferred:
Experience in peptide discovery, ADCs (Antibody-drug conjugates) or PDC (peptide-drug conjugates)California pay range $110,000—$150,000 USD
