Screening Technician

Position Summary: Performs UDS/ORAL/HAIR specimen collections and control of laboratory specimens for analysis and evaluation purposes for occupational clients as requested by Tribal Entities or Human Services agencies. Position holder does NOT perform specimen analyses.

Critical Tasks: 

Collects specimens and transport all forensic collections to ensure adherence with established chain of command standards and requirements.Explains specimen collection procedures clearly to individuals providing specimens, while not varying from those procedures under any circumstance. Ensures all proper specimen collection methods are utilized to prevent specimen contamination.Requires and accepts only valid and visually legitimate government issued forms of identification from all individuals from whom specimens are received. Positively identifies the donor with the use of valid picture ID.Performs Breath Alcohol Analysis, urine, oral fluid (rapid drug screen testing) and hair analysis specimen collections in full compliance with documented protocols.Receives specimens collected and reviews for authenticity; identifying altered specimens and taking appropriate action.Accurately prepares and affixes labels to specimen vials to ensure proper identification.Maintains accurate records, files, logs of collection activities. Complies fully with all medical records and information privacy regulations, state and federal.Remains available on a 24/7/365 on-call basis for post-accident/reasonable suspicion specimen collections.May be required to provide court testimony regarding drug screening collections.Ensures routine preventive maintenance is performed on program equipment/vehicles.Transports confidential reports to Client sites.Supports a culture of kindness with customer service and public relations. Performs other special projects and duties as assigned

Required Qualifications: 

High school diploma or equivalentOne (1) year Medical environment / human specimen collection experience required.Certified or certification eligible in BAT; (Breath Alcohol Technician) required.Certified or certification eligible as a Professional Collector by DATIA required.Recent experience within a medical laboratory environment as a clinical assistant or phlebotomist preferred.Current/valid Arizona State Driver’s License. Must be able to meet the physical and mental demands of external environmental conditions while driving to and from Client sites as well as risks associated with operating a motor vehicle during peak traffic conditions, late at night and exposure to potentially volatile situations during on-site client screening programs.Interest in medical subjects, patient services/care, and customer service.
