Amazon Advertising is hiring a Software Development Engineer to be part of our multi-petabyte core data team. In this role you will be responsible for the architecture, design and implementation of highly-scalable systems that provide availability, scalability and latency guarantees. In addition you will be expected to raise the standards of the team by mentoring junior engineers as well as defining and helping the team adhere to development standards.

The right candidate will possess strong technical skills, experience developing and deploying medium to large distributed services. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment. This means delivering despite ambiguity and being able to balance competing priorities. You are able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in, and get tasks done.

You will need to communicate to a variety of technical and business stakeholders. The role requires inventing and simplifying to balance business growth with sustainable costs and operations. You must be able to take large, complex problems and break them down into smaller pieces, then deliver them in a timely and high-quality manner.

About the team
The Supply and Identity Data team builds petabyte-scale data systems that power critical advertising functions, including customer-facing features, machine learning processes, and financial reporting. We are expected to quickly, reliably, and cost effectively generate business value from a vast amount of input data. Put another way, our systems have to be fast and right at all times, even as the data volume and the variety of use cases increases. We are looking for a software development engineer with a passion for dealing with large scale datasets and high standards for engineering. Our systems are based on a blend of AWS, open-source, and third-party technologies.
