Camping, boating, swimming, fishing, hiking, and ATV touring are all available within the immediate area. The sights and sounds of wildlife are best in and near Seminoe State Park. You'll have the opportunity to view big horn sheep, elk, mule deer, antelope, coyote, mountain lion, bobcat, fox, martin, raccoon, skunk, jackrabbit, cottontail rabbit, eagles, and other birds of prey plus many types of waterfowl and migratory birds. In addition to the transcontinental railroad, Fort Fred Steele State Historic Site covers most historical themes in Wyoming. From historic pioneer trails to Wyoming politics and the agricultural and mining interests that came to define the state early on – livestock, coal, gold, and timber. Fort Steele was occupied until August 7, 1886, by soldiers who were sent by the U.S. Government to guard the railroad river crossing and assist in the settlement of the West. Seminoe State Park and Fort Fred Steele State Historic Site are hiring maintenance workers at both locations. Housing is provided for the positions at Seminoe State Park. Photos of the housing are available upon request. The employment season is from mid-May to mid-September. The actual length of employment depends on the demand for services. Seasonal Maintenance Worker: + Perform routine building, grounds, and landscape maintenance, minor carpentry repairs, painting, and mowing. + Assist staff in the construction, installation, maintenance, renovation of grounds and buildings, and preventive maintenance. + Clean and service restrooms, shelters, and buildings; remove litter from grounds, parking lots, and other public areas. + Operate and/or drive a variety of vehicles and light and heavy equipment. + Operate various maintenance equipment, such as mowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, and other equipment required in daily operations. Utilize various hand and power tools. + Follow proper handling and safety procedures involving cleaning chemicals and fuel products encountered in daily operations, including proper Personal Protective Equipment usage. + Provide excellent customer service. May interact with the visiting public answering basic questions. Qualifications PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: For all seasonal positions, preference will be given to applicants who are professional while providing excellent customer service. **Must have a valid driver's license. **Must be at least 16 years of age. KNOWLEDGE: + Detail-oriented, accurate, and thorough in completing assignments/tasks. + Good interpersonal skills allowing the ability to interact with visitors from around the world. + Willingness to work on a variety of assignments every day. + Some experience in handling money, cash registers, and retail sales. + Must possess excellent customer service skills. + Ability to manage and complete multiple projects with variable timelines and scopes of work. + Basic construction and maintenance knowledge. + Basic operational knowledge of light and heavy equipment use, as well as hand and power tools. + Basic safety awareness of equipment use. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: None - See "Preferences" Necessary Special Requirements PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: + Must work outdoors in all weather conditions. + Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, with or without assistance. NOTES: + FLSA: Non-Exempt + Seasonal positions require irregular work hours, including weekends, holidays, and evenings. + Housing will be provided for the seasonal workers at Seminoe State Park. + One position will be located at Fort Fred Steele, and two at Seminoe State Park.
