This position is responsible for instruction/teaching outdoor-related skills and activities that include, but are not limited to cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, fishing, geocaching, hiking, and other outdoor-related programs. The position also assists in the planning and scheduling of recreation, interpretive and historic programs. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: + Must be at least 18 years of age; + Ability to read, write, and follow written and oral instructions; + Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout employment. DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE: + Work experience in outdoor recreation activities/programming; + Work experience with youth programming; + Work experience with program registration and curriculums. SELECTION TECHNIQUE: Your training and experience will be rated based on the required application material submitted and the top-scoring candidates will be forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration.HOURS / DAYS: 20-40 hours per week. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES + Act as an instructor for a variety of outdoor programs; + Work with outside groups to facilitate programs in the parks; + Assist park staff with scheduled park programs and special events; + Assist park staff to develop a series of additional events or activities such as special events, outdoor education classes, day camps, and other related programs; + Assist with program and event registration; + Assist with operations for special events; Perform other duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed 70% outside, 30% inside. Work performed outside involves exposure to seasonal weather including heat, wind, humidity, sand, rain, cold water, snow, ice, and cold. Equipment used may include but is not limited to: office printer/scanner/fax, adding machine, computer, cash drawer or register, cleaning equipment and solutions, keyboard, telephone, two-way radio, skis, snowshoes, archery equipment, GPS units, and fishing equipment. Duties include occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs., stooping, kneeling, reaching, balancing, walking, handling, and communicating with customers.
