Job Title: Secondary Literacy Interventionist
Job Summary: The Secondary Literacy Interventionist will provide targeted reading instruction to students who are reading below grade level. The primary focus will be delivering evidence-based interventions to support literacy development, improve reading comprehension, and boost overall academic achievement. The ideal candidate will have experience using structured literacy programs and interventions, and experience with the Wilson Reading System is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Deliver small group or individualized reading instruction to secondary students identified as needing reading intervention.
+ Implement evidence-based reading interventions to support student growth in decoding, fluency, and comprehension.
+ Assess and monitor student progress regularly, using data to adjust instruction and interventions as needed.
+ Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other specialists to support students' reading needs across content areas.
+ Provide instructional strategies and resources to help classroom teachers accommodate struggling readers.
+ Use structured literacy programs, such as the Wilson Reading System, for targeted intervention where appropriate.
+ Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate progress to students, parents, and school staff.
+ Participate in professional development to stay current on research-based reading interventions and instructional techniques.
+ Build and maintain strong relationships with students and their families to support their continued growth and motivation.
+ Ability to adopt a differentiated, diagnostic-prescriptive, adaptive/interactive teaching pedagogy for high-level, individual student engagement
+ Set high (yet realistic) expectations for all children regardless of individual learning challenges.
+ Be an active participant on the District SOR/Dyslexia Leadership Team.
+ Be willing and able to travel between buildings throughout the day to serve varying age groups at the secondary level.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience with the Wilson Reading System and other structured literacy programs is strongly preferred.
+ Experience providing secondary intervention and assessment for struggling readers.
+ Strong knowledge of reading development, including phonics, phonological awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies.
+ Experience working with diverse student populations, including students with dyslexia or other reading disabilities.
Minimum Requirements:
+ Valid teaching certification in reading, special education, or related fields.
+ Experience in reading intervention or literacy support at the secondary level.
+ Strong data-driven decision-making skills to inform instruction and intervention practices.
