To align with the legislative change covered by Bill C-14, each geographical area within Island Health is seeking qualified Registered Nurses who wish to express an interest in assisting physicians or nurse practitioners with the provision of Medical Assistance in Dying ( MAiD ) for such deaths to take place in a patient's home, or a non-acute setting such as long-term care, ambulatory care.
The planned death may occur at any time throughout the day, any day of the week. The provision of MAiD will only take place in authorized circumstances in which an adult patient clearly consents to the termination of life and meets the eligibility criteria outlined by relevant federal legislation. Patients may also withdraw consent at any time. As such, there is an inability to predict the frequency of MAiD and as such those expressing an interest will only be called upon when the need arises.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And ExperienceRegistration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Valid driver's license.
Skills And Abilities Applicants must meet BC College of Nurses and Midwives Limits and Conditions to aid in MAiD. Demonstrated vascular access knowledge and current proficiency in IV starts. Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts, including co-workers, physicians, community agency representatives, patients, residents and families.
