Reporting to the Manager or designate, provides social work services and counselling to clients, to assist in meeting the developmental and psychosocial needs of clients and to enable clients to utilize social systems and medical care in order to achieve their optimal level of independence and health. Prepares social assessments and participates in inter-disciplinary teamwork and liaises with and obtains resources from community social health and welfare agencies. Clinical guidance/instruction is available from the Senior Therapist.

QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And Experience

Masters of Social Work degree (MSW) from an accredited school of Social Work.Current full registration with the BC College of Social Workers.Two years recent related experience in a developmental paediatric setting or related field; experience with application of Family Centred practice; experience working with community agencies; working knowledge of acute health care, community living services and regional Ministry of Child & Family Development environments and of relevant legislation. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Skills And AbilitiesAbility to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.Ability to collaborate with others effectively.Ability to work with children and families.Ability to use initiative and exercise judgment.Ability to establish priorities and organize workload.Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.Knowledge of assessment, group processes and ability to apply facilitation techniques.Ability to operate related equipment.Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.Travel may be a requirement of this position and transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the program. Team includes developmental pediatrics, psychology, occupational therapy, speech language pathology and occasionally psychiatry. Social Work role completes intake, supports case management function for the team in addition to completing family support and assessment where needed. Provincial educational opportunities assist in helping regional teams meet clinical standards and guidelines required for services.
