In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Manager, Protection Services, the Team Leader, Protection Services supervises assigned Protection Services staff at multiple sites and provides liaison, work direction, and coordination, in the event of emergencies, to staff of contracted security services, in accordance with departmental procedures. The Team Leader acts as the On-call Administrator, for fire/security emergencies and other related incidents. As well, the Team Leader occasionally carries out typical Protection Services Officer duties at assigned sites, such as patrolling buildings and grounds, securing property and responding to requests for assistance from staff, patients and the public in matters of fire, security and parking.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And ExperienceA level of education, training and experience equivalent to a college diploma in a related discipline such as criminal justice or business administration and five (5) years' recent related security and fire prevention/protection experience, including at least two (2) years' supervisory experience.
Valid Security License with Advanced Security Training (AST) endorsement.
Skills And AbilitiesMust be eligible for certification as a Peace Officer. Possesses the necessary skills required to lead and develop teams. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite. Ability to deal with others effectively. Proven ability to mentor and motivate employees. Ability to communicate with people in a distressed state of mind and to tender support as necessary. Ability to work with stakeholders, and interdepartmental teams at all levels of the organization. Ability to organize work, the work of direct reports and delegate where appropriate. Ability to operate related equipment. Valid BC driver's license. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
