Reporting to the Clinical Coordinator, performs professional social work of advanced complexity. Assists in resolving complex psychosocial problems. Carries out a variety of casework and counselling methods; consults extensively with hospital staff and community agencies regarding the psychosocial aspects of the patient's situation and participates in the training of Social Work students.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And Experience

Masters of Social Work degree (M.S.W.) from an accredited school of Social Work required. Current full registration with the BC College of Social Workers. Related social work experience, preferably in a medical setting, and demonstrated clinical competence.

Skills And Abilities Ability to use initiative and exercise judgment as required. Knowledge of community resources. Ability to work independently on complex matters. Demonstrated effective oral and written skills. Demonstrated organizational skills. Ability to establish priorities and organize workload accordingly. Additional information for applicants Currently this Masters Degree of Social Work position is located on the Neurological Rehabilitation Unit at the Victoria General Hospital. The Social Worker works in team-based care - providing social work services in planning complex discharges with clients and their families to return to their home community or alternate level of care. Clients admitted to this unit have sustained a brain injury, or experienced other neurological traumas or diagnoses that impact their lives both physically and cognitively. Services include short -term counselling related to grief and loss, adjustment to diagnosis and change of health status, support to accessing resources such as housing applications, financial applications and/or other resources. Advance care planning regarding financial management, health care decisions and initial goals of care is part of the social work role. All social workers in hospital are Designated Responders under the Adult Guardianship Act and must investigate, assess and intervene in all matters related to adult abuse, neglect and self-neglect. Social Workers work collaboratively with the Ministry of Children and Families in matters pertaining to child protection.
