Reporting to the Clinical Coordinator, performs professional social work of advanced complexity. Assists in resolving complex psychosocial problems. Carries out a variety of casework and counselling methods; consults extensively with hospital staff and community agencies regarding the psychosocial aspects of the patient's situation and participates in the training of Social Work students.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And Experience

Masters of Social Work degree (M.S.W.) from an accredited school of Social Work required. Current full registration with the BC College of Social Workers. Related social work experience, preferably in a medical setting, and demonstrated clinical competence.

Skills And Abilities Ability to use initiative and exercise judgment as required. Knowledge of community resources. Ability to work independently on complex matters. Demonstrated effective oral and written skills. Demonstrated organizational skills. Ability to establish priorities and organize workload accordingly. Additional information for applicants Currently this part time masters degree of social work position is located at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital on an acute care general medical unit. The social worker provides urgent/emergent coverage to the E.D when the other social worker is unexpectedly off. Previous clinical social work experience in critical care areas in acute care will be an asset. Social workers work in team-based care and are dealing with clients and their families experiencing a trauma, are in crisis, dealing with grief and sudden and unexpected loss, and traumatic change in health condition. Social workers provide short-term supportive counselling, refer clients to various community and government resources and prioritize complex discharge planning . They assist clients in applications for financial, equipment and housing resources. Social workers are involved in complex discharge planning to support clients returning to their home community or alternate level of care. All social workers are Designated Responders under the Adult Guardianship Act and must investigate, assess, and intervene in all allegations of Adult abuse, neglect and self-neglect. Social workers collaborate with the Ministry of Children and Families on all matters related to child protection. Social workers must be registered with the British Columbia College of Social workers to practice in hospitals. Additional Clauses This position is eligible for up to a $15,000 signing bonus.
