Reporting to the Clinical Co-ordinator, the Senior Cook is responsible for providing vocational training for people living with mental health challenges while producing low cost meals for sale. These meals are available to clients in the community and promotes food security. The Senior Cook creates the training curriculum, plans the meals, purchases food and supplies and supervises food preparation, monitors inventory of food and implements and maintains health standards and quality control.
The Senior Cook works with the team to provide vocational training participants with a safe and therapeutic working environment that supports their individual working needs. Works in collaboration with the team and program participants to meet established goals and objectives while using a person-centred approach. Meal planning, kitchen organizational skills, orientation, monitoring and providing feedback and support are integral aspects of this role.
Routine cleaning duties include cleaning food preparation equipment, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning kitchen and storage areas and removing garbage. A clean and orderly kitchen is maintained at all times. Creates policies, procedures, goals and evaluates program. Prepares reports, program materials and documentation as required. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Travel is a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Vancouver Island Health Authority in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And ExperienceGrade 12. Certification as a Cook - Industry Training and Apprenticeship Commission. Food Safe 1 & Food Safe 2. Certification in CPR, First Aid. Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) within three (3) months of employment. A minimum of three (3) years' recent, related experience in cooking and kitchen management. Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience working with and supporting people with mental health challenges.
