In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Director, Community Hospitals, the Site Director is accountable for all aspects of directing patient care services provided within the assigned site and service area. This includes providing strategic direction for patient care delivery, operational planning, human resource development, financial management, quality management and education. The Site Director provides leadership in managing and implementing change and ensures an environment that supports both professional practice and alignment with VIHA's culture, values and strategic direction.

The Site Director is responsible for inpatient and outpatient acute care nursing departments and clinics. As designated site administrator, the Site Director facilitates the on-site services of other VIHA departments such as Admitting, Health Records, Facility Maintenance, Laboratory, Medical Imaging, Pharmacy, and Rehabilitation Services. Liaises with Program Managers and Directors of departments who provide services to the site to ensure a safe work environment and service commitments to the community. Works in collaboration with the Site Chief on local medical staffing and quality issues. Collaborates with Foundations and Auxiliaries to facilitate their activities at the site and works in collaboration with outside agencies and partners with shared interests such as colleges and First Nations.

QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And Experience

A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master's degree in a relevant health discipline and seven (7) to nine (9) years of relevant managerial experience. Appropriate certification, license or professional designation.

Skills And AbilitiesExcellent communication, interpersonal skills, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.Demonstrated leadership ability in the context of evolving needs and skills in negotiating creative solutions.Ability to integrate administrative, professional and operational aspects of the service areas throughout the Vancouver Island Health Authority in an effective and efficient manner.Ability to develop and nurture an environment where quality improvement principles are embraced and used on a continuous basis.Strong management skills, particularly in staff and budget areas.Ability to work effectively with staff, physicians and community members.
