Reporting to the Clinical Coordinator, performs professional social work of advanced complexity. Assists in resolving complex psychosocial problems. Carries out a variety of casework and counselling methods; consults extensively with hospital staff and community agencies regarding the psychosocial aspects of the patient's situation and participates in the training of Social Work students.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And ExperienceMasters of Social Work degree (M.S.W.) from an accredited school of Social Work required. Current full registration with the BC College of Social Workers. Related social work experience, preferably in a medical setting, and demonstrated clinical competence.
Skills And Abilities Ability to use initiative and exercise judgment as required. Knowledge of community resources. Ability to work independently on complex matters. Additional information for applicants This temporary .78 FTE masters degree of social work position is currently located at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in the Emergency Department MON to FRI and on weekends and statutory holidays covering the site in the Emergency Department , Adult Intensive Care unit, Cardiac Care unit as well as any other emergent needs . The rotation includes 4 shifts on and 4 shifts off 7 days a week including statutory holiday coverage. Previous clinical experience working in an acute care hospital in critical care areas will be an asset. Social workers work in team-based care and are working with clients and their families experiencing a trauma, are in crisis, needing support with grief and sudden and unexpected loss, and/or traumatic change in health condition. Social workers provide short-term supportive counselling, refer clients to various community and government resources and prioritize complex discharge planning All social workers are Designated Responders under the Adult Guardianship Act and must investigate, assess and intervene on allegations of Adult abuse, neglect and self-neglect. Collaboration with the Ministry of Children and Families in child protection issues is required. Social workers must be registered with the British Columbia College of Social workers to practice in hospitals in B.C. Additional Clauses This position is eligible for up to a $15,000 signing bonus.
