In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to Manager or designate, conducts planned educational and recreational activities for children, adolescents, and their families. Provides activities that further the intellectual, physical, emotional, and social development of children and youth. The Child Life Specialist acts as a patient advocate, functions as a member of the Child, Youth & Family (CYF) Department and as a member of an assigned health care team, in accordance with the professional standards of practice of the Child Life Council.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And Experience Bachelor's Degree in related field such as Child & Youth Care from a recognized program; One (1) year recent related experience; Current Child Life Certification; Eligible for registration with the Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP);

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered .

Skills And Abilities Ability to assess and interact with patients and families applying theories of human growth and development, family systems, and cultural diversity. Ability to represent and communicate the role of child life to others. Ability to organize and prioritize work. Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
