We have an exciting opportunity for a Section Manager, Astromaterials Research to join the team

The Section Manager, Astromaterials Research will\:

Manage, supervise, and administratively direct the activities of employees in the Astromaterials Research Section. Work closely with the NASA scientists to determine near- and long-term tasks, priorities, schedules, upgrades, improvements, and reporting items. Establish daily and weekly task priorities and resource assignments, direct the science staff, and resolve schedule and resource issues as they arise. Communicate the status of ongoing activities to customers and management. Manage employee performance, conduct interviews and hiring, and evaluate performance. Perform other duties as required.​ *

Requisition Qualifications\:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

A BS degree and a minimum of 5-10 years of experience are typically required. Experience working with analytical instruments and in analytical laboratories. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.​

Requisition Preferences\:

​Advanced degree in planetary science or related field. Published in peer-reviewed science journals. Experience leading and managing people in a project or lab environment. Familiarity with a research environment and planetary sciences.​

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.

Other Essential Functions

Professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
